Very sad to see. I rarely go in to brighton now and when I do I think what a tip. The council really need to do something about it but hey, as long as people keep going there they probably won't.

I get that, the seafront was always good though. West Street went very downhill when the concrete bollards went in. It would be good if at least during spring and summer jet wash and cleaners were on the streets in the tourist places every morning. As I say that, a street cleaner has gone past, I'm in Turkey...It's always been a tip. It's just you didn't mind it when you were younger.
I left Brighton 7 years ago but grew up and had lived there since 1967 - I can’t remember all the old independent shops that disappeared- there were so many.Another centre of Brighton specialist goes. Aird & Co of Bond Street for tools, Clifford’s for car bits in Church Street. The latter gave it go in School Road, Hove for a long period, eventually succumbing to Amazon etc,
Rounder was a huge loss. I started buying records in there when I was 16 or 17 and carried on right up until they closed, I was also a member of their record club which introduced me to so much good music.I left Brighton 7 years ago but grew up and had lived there since 1967 - I can’t remember all the old independent shops that disappeared- there were so many.
I remember the old guy that ran a small bicycle repair shop in Baker Street - I took my bike to him for years - he died and the shop was bought out, modernised and enlarged.
I think the biggest personal loss for me personally were shops like Rave On and Rounder Records which specialised in the music I was in to..
Brighton's Rounder Records set to close after 46 years
An independent record store is to close after 46 years, blaming illegal downloaders, online retailers, and the recession.www.bbc.co.ukRave On
(July 21, 2014) Anonymous said: Run by Piers Chalmers and Mick Turner.. Piers is still around and trading.. Mick sadly died around 2000 Rave on was a great shop..www.britishrecordshoparchive.org
I don't remember getting fishing tackle there but wasn't there a fishing tackle so at the bottom of Edward Street, something Balls?I'm possibly having a brain fart here but going back 45 years or so I've a vague memory of buying fishing tackle and bait from there, not your usual stock for a hardware store but I can't shift the cobwebs enough to verify this absurd memory.

I often wonder what happened to Johnny and Steve.
