For all those that watched WIs in prime how very sad to see them now. I have said for a long time 20/20 will kill 3/5 day game and it is happening. India England and Australia will hang on the longest.
In years to come those in charge will say how wealthy cricket is without mentioning how they have ruined long form of game.
Cricket does go in cycles. I, like you remember the fearsome Windies. They can come back

On the subject of great teams and players of the past, I assume most people on this thread are familiar with the story of how when Trueman retired from first class cricket he was off-handedly given his gift from Yorkshire and then had to pay to have it engraved himself.

It might all have been a bit more fuss than Jimmy would have liked, but I'd prefer it that way around than the old way.

I mean this genuinely, but what has the marketing of County Cricket got to do with the downfall of the West Indies Test team?

My response about money being the answer was about the dreadful drop off of the West Indies. Unless you get enough money into the Test playing nations that aren't India, Australia and England, they'll never be a viable force in the game. That can be said for loads of other historic test playing nations as well.
You may like to look at recent statement from Brian Lara who said it is not just about money in WIs

I’m not sure he troubled the scorer with bat either did he? Not needed
He had the ultimate village “fresh air” game. Didn’t bowl, run out for 0 batting at 10 and fielded at Fine Leg for much of the WI second innings. :lolol:

I read that young Caribbean folk these days are more into Basketball, Football and other sports rather than cricket 🤷

This. Have had several long discussions when on holiday over the last few years, opinions are always the same - mostly basketball and football for those into sport, and too many other distractions for those not.

A thought just occurred to me.

If Atkinson were to take 12 wickets in every match of his test career, it'd take 59 tests to match Anderson's total. Only 9 specialist fast bowlers (plus a few allrounders) have played that many for England.

It would also take about 6 years if he plays every match, which if anything seems less likely than him taking 12 wickets a game.
