Didn't see anything but with Anderlecht also in Europe I wonder if it was just for scheduling/pitch reasons.

You are probably right, I'd totally forgotten that Anderlecht weren't in European competition last season.

Is it fair for one man to be playing against Chelsea? Noah is already 3-0 down.

Edit: 4-0
To be fair, most weeks it's only one man playing for Chelsea, so....

Honestly class this and a 2-0 win against Hearts to go with it.

For context, Heidenheim's rise is like ours. Slowly but surely managed to get successive promotions and the manager has been the same since 2007 when they were in the 5th tier of German football. A proper club.

What we also have to mention is their squad is consisting mostly out of German players. They only have four foreigners. Two are Austrians, one Brazilian (interestingly also has Luxembourg citizenship) and then a Danish striker they've signed this summer. Five other players have double nationality but were all born in Germany except for a 18 year old Bayern loanee wonderkid Paul Wanner who was born in Austria (he's playing for German youth NT teams though) but has come through BM academy and is also the youngest player to play for Bayern in Bundesliga.

Just a wonderful story. Their manager (Frank Schmidt) you've mentioned became the longest-serving manager at a single club in German football history in September 2023. And another interesting fact is the most they've ever spend on a player is 3,5 mio. euros. So from that perspective they are also a big rarity in modern day football, especially for a club from a top 5 league.

Frankfurt v Spurs is a brilliant watch. A goal, an all out assault, incredible atmosphere and a red card for, er, someone on a bench. Six minutes of added first half time and Spurs can, and maybe will still, f*ck it up.

What on earth is with that Spurs away strip? Reminds me of watching a baseball game in San Diego where the Padres wore camo uniforms (a no-no as the home team is always supposed to wear white)

Oh, there’s lots of BAD stuff. Sam Matterface. Glenn Hoddle. The refereeing. And, yes, Spurs’ kit. It’s HIDEOUS.

San Diego is a very military oriented city due to all the armed forces bases in that part of California. I believe the Padres honor a military member each week.

Every Sunday, in partnership with USAA, the Padres will recognize and honor the men and women who serve our country. Active-duty service members, Veterans, and their families receive 25% off Sunday tickets and 10% off tickets all season long, available online through verification by GOVX.

Since 1995, the Padres have led the way in honoring our nation's military, pioneering the establishment of a dedicated Military Affairs department. Recognized as the 'Team of the Military' in professional sports, they've built a robust program, including non-profit partnerships, morale-boosting events, in-stadium recognition, and community engagement. Their traditions at Petco Park stand as a testament to their ongoing commitment to our service members, locally and worldwide.

During each Military Salute, the Padres shine a special spotlight on a military hero as a small token of appreciation for their courageous efforts. The heroes are honored with an in-ballpark ceremony, favorable seats, and an encased flag which was flown over Petco Park. While we hold the utmost respect for all military personnel and veterans as heroes, we select a specific Military Hero of the Game through our nomination process.

When Sean Manaea (Samoan pitcher from my hometown in Indiana) pitched for the Padres he was allowed to honor his own brother who was serving in the military in the San Diego area at the time. Manaea is now with the Mets.

On April 3, 2022, the Athletics traded Manaea and Aaron Holiday to the San Diego Padres for Adrián Martínez and Euribiel Angeles. In 2022 with San Diego he was 8–9 with a 4.96 ERA in 30 games (28 starts) in which he pitched 158 innings and struck out 156 batters.[29]

Manaea became a free agent following the conclusion of the 2022 season.[51][52]
