Falmer, soon...
I used to play FPS and Driving games a lot before kids but don't have the concentration levels these days. So it's more quick things I can dip in and out of.

The consistent ones that i keep going back to are:

Football Manager - I've played every version every year since CM1
Rocket League - but only gold level these days. The top level players are now unbelievable

- Football Manager
We are NOT the same

I had to uninstall FM because I’d jump on for one game and end up playing for 11 hours… most games (HoMM III) excluded I can do a tight 2 hours and be satisfied.

It’s because of this:

The football really does go on forever

Golden Axe

Then Sensible Soccer and Championship Manager back in the day on the Amiga 600...

I recently got myself a Retroid Pocket 5, an Android based handheld gaming console that plays almost everything up to GameCube perfectly and a large number of PS2, 3DS, Vita and Switch games as well. I got a 1TB SD card and have spent the past few months filling it up with all my favourite games. Haven't touched the PS5 since, commute journeys fly by!

I'm current playing:
Sensible World of Soccer, PC version running through Winlator, using the 24/25 teams update.
SSX3
Ridge Racers 2 - PSP
Jean D'Arc - PSP
Brutal Doom
Quake 1.5
Soul Calibur 2
Devil Crash - Megadrive
Tetris Effect
Gran Turismo 4
Gradius 5
Cosmic Smash
Fight Night Round 3
Street Fighter 2 Ultra and 4

Favourite games of all time though are:
The Witcher 3
Skyrim
Zelda Wind Waker & Breath of the Wild
GTA San Andreas
Battlefield Bad Company 2
Skate 1, 2 & 3

If you get one can you confirm if it is any good please. I keep almost getting one than tell myself the games are best as memories.

So, I'm cheating a bit because whilst I was at school, apparently my mum would go in and play Golden Axe on my mega drive... I found this out this year... So bought her one... Seems to work fine, handheld unit for £27 has hundreds of games on it

Been playing video/computer games for 40 years. A few I've enjoyed are:
Elite (C64)
Magic Pockets (Atari ST)
Shades (text only online RPG played on Prestel then internet)
For ages now I've been playing 7 Days To Die, a zombie/building/crafting game. According to Steam I've got about 2700 hours in it 😲
Wow thats i pressive. Google says thats 113 days (2700 hrs)

Having bought the Spectrum retro remake, I would concur that the memories are better than the reality!

Don't buy one from Tik-Tok. You'll be paying an inflated price to a dropshipper. Go to AliExpress or the manufacturer's own website if they have one. Also, these Chinese handhelds vary massively in quality from pure e-waste to incredibly good.

There's a YouTuber called RetroGameCorps who covers a lot of these things, I suggest you check out his videos and guides here: https://retrogamecorps.com/

I could write a painfully long post about these things and derail the thread, so I'll just say that a good rule of thumb is to stick to devices from Anbernic, Retroid, and TrimUI (but even they each have a few duffers in their line-ups; conversely, even the manufacturers of crap machines tend to have one or two genuinely good ones in their line up. But "one of these three brands" works okay as a shortcut).

The other thing to bear in mind is that when these come with an SD card full of games, the SD card is utter crap (either unbranded or counterfeit) that will fail on you, and the games are usually a really bad collection that includes duplicates, non-English versions of games, and bad ROM dumps (the last of these are the worst, because you can be 2/3 into a game and it just stops working).

For most of these devices, the onboard firmware tends to be a bit crap too.

For those reason, most of us who do this as a hobby bin those cards and replace them with a branded one, which we load up with custom firmware made by the community and ROMs we've collected ourselves from t'internet. If you're not comfortable doing this, you'll likely have a disappointing experience with one of these machines.

Genuinely disappointed when I got to the end, currently on my 4th game so making different choices in conversations which take the game in a different direction.
Witcher 4 trailer out soon, can't wait

I've not turned by PS on for ages! Do like a bit of GTA when time allows.

Was playing football manager Sunday evening, looked at the clock and suddenly it was 3am Monday morning.... alarm went off at 6... Quickly realised that I can no longer do this at my age!

If I am not throwing time at Football Manager, I am either on civ 5 (Into about 5000 hrs on steam-got 6 but never got into it and went back to 5) or racing online in either R Factor or Assetto Corsa

Growing up it was either Mario Kart, Goldeneye or street fighter then into Pro Evo (6 being the peak)
