Football fan rivalry census

There was loads of funny stuff in that survey.

I remember us singing "no one hates you/no one hates you/no one hates you/no-one cares" when we went up there last season, and it appears this is borne out by the survey. Nobody gives a damn about them, or Orient.

It does seem to have missed off (in the nicknames section) that Millwall fans call Palace fans Nigels for some reason, shame really.

Just spoke to my Swindon contact and they reckon it's something to do with when they beat the pikeys in the play-offs in 1987. All kicked off and apparently a pensioner ran on the pitch with an umbrella and EVERYTHING.

Similarly, Plymouth hate Burnley. Interesting one that one:

Firstly, rumour has it that Plymouth deliberately lost at Burnley in the early 80s on police advice. Otherwise Burnley might have gone out the league and the old bill couldn't guarantee away fans safety. It didn't stop the dingles running onto the pitch and goading the away fans at the end of the match anyway.

Then in the early 90s, Plymouth and Burnley met in the play-offs. Plymouth had finished 15 points clear of the dingles in the season, and looked sorted when the first leg finished 0-0. In the second leg, Plymouth were all over them, but somehow lost 2-0. Burnley fans were utterly graceless in victory and then apparently later went on the rampage and there was loads of trouble.

Gillingham/Swindon is along similar lines I believe. As it Colchester/Wycombe from the non league days.

I believe "Chortleton" and "the spanners" both refer to Palarse as the "stripey nigels" in fact. Very suitable methinks.

Anyone who experienced Brighton v Portsmouth in the 70's will understand why this is in here. Does anyone remember the Clockwork Orange stuff? It actually made the national news live even before the game started. :glare:

Nasty.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I'm in bits... I've just noticed Reading consider West Ham to be their third biggest rivals. :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

Fuckinell - I'm sure that's the last time West Ham do them a favour by taking a crap manager of their hands.

West Ham is a load of shite... can't believe that our fans are that stupid. Its basically only one man in history that causes us to want them to have bad results. If Pardew left nobody would give an arse.

Aldershot should be in there in 3rd place.

Why the f*** do Gillingham hate Swindon?

They beat us in the playoffs in '87 and it all kicked off outside. I personally couldnt give a shit about them.

Icy Gull said:
Because they both want to be recognised as the shittiest southern town with a League football team?

Not suprising as i think it's too close to call.

That's a nice thing to say. I'm so glad I put the Falmer petition on my site now :p

We aren't any ones rivals not even their 2nd or 3rd. I was expecting to be one of Fulham's because of the fight a few years ago. It isn't too surprising really because we are a family club with friendly fans (99.999% of them). We are the only team in Kent so there will be no local derbys. And there has been nothing that we have done to f*** anyone off. I feel so loved.

The Clockwork Orange stuff was from the film, where certain "firms" Millwall, West Ham, Portsmouth, Chelsea adopted the antics of the main protagonists in the film, ie, violence, intimidation theft, deboarchary etc.

Millwall adopted the "surgical mask" theory of scaring the shit out of people before twatting them, and Pompey adopted the " hit anything that moves" theory, now adopted by Cardiff hoolies

Stockport and Burnley hated each other long before this as I used to go to Stockport regularly in the early 90s when I worked in Manchester. Burnley was always the most eagerly awaited fixture, with Stoke not far behind.

I obviously agree with Palace.

I just dislike the knuckle scrappers from Pompey. I don't see them as a rival. The Reading thing is just a flash in the pan...similar to Orient a couple of years ago.
