It's probably a relegation clause

I can’t get my head around this offer.

£40m is an astonishing amount.

Perhaps FH knew of him in Germany and had fallen in love?

Could he be the Hartel type player to replace Groß. A kind of Number 8.5?

Or is it goodbye to Pedro or Ferguson?

Mind blowing night in the transfer window!
I saw a lot of Leeds United last season in my Championships watches. Rutter is a quality player. And I think those friends on here who don't think he ranks as well as Pedro may well be surprised.

In the states we call that a "sanity clause." Of course everyone knows there is no such thing as "sanity clause."

Brazil Scout has Nkunku down as a similar player type.

The Chelsea player is 3 years older than Rutter but has a versatility that would make Hürzeler roar with excitement and approval.

I wonder if Rutter could play in all those positions too? The eye test on YouTube says yes.

Milner/Welbeck obviously can’t start every game with Gruda and Rutter it gives different options. We got caught out badly last season now we’ve added some competition and squad depth it wouldn’t make any sense to sell Pedro/Adingra.
The one in one out thinking doesn’t add competition nor build a strong competitive squad. TB wants to play some serious football this season.

This is where I am. It doesn’t make sense to me. I know the usual gang will be along to chastise me and telling me to trust Tony (which I do) but it’s simple mathematics.

We have:

Mitoma
Adingra
Minteh
March
Pedro
Enciso
Gruda
Welbeck
Ferguson
Rutter

That’s 10 players for four places. And it’s not even like we have Europe to contend with.

Meanwhile we are very light on centre midfield and arguably quality centre halves.
Yep, that's ten for four places. Four come on as subs, that's 8, plus 2 will be rested / injured at any one time. Three of them are already out for Saturday as it stands. Options.

If there is a substantial offer for Ferguson I think we'd be wise to cash in, losing Pedro however would be a massive blow and I'm not convinced Rutter would be an adequate replacement.

Doesn’t really mean anything. The Leeds forum I looked at was far more equivocal about him. Most thought it would be a blow to lose him in the same window as Gray and Somerville, especially now the season's started. Others thought he was all unfulfilled potential and that they’d be mad to turn down £40m. He seems to be a rough diamond that their coaching staff weren’t quite able to bring on. I’d hope that FH and co would fare better. It’s a gamble but as always, I back Albion to make the right decision.

Hopefully, it's not as a result of an excessive boardroom party colliding with a virus in the software

It would appear that TB has done the maths and worked out that a top 6 finish and the brand recognition that comes with it makes the expense value for money. As to 40m unfortunately, as ridiculous an amount of money that it is in relative terms it is f*** all. My only concern is that a brand new coach and essentially a new squad could be a tad shaky before it all comes together.
