Nooooo!!!!

I don't want to see Leeds benefit from loaning our young stars. Leave them struggling in the Championship.
I'm hoping Middlesbrough and Burnley, or some other club are good enough to finish above them.
True. We loan them a player, and they think they own them. #freenamedplayer

2 things ...

1) how stupid to buy him for 35 then have a 40 release clause.

2) bit embarrassing if he turns us down.
Another Kudus incident would be very crap for us. Especially as O’Riley will know Rutter was our preference if we go back to him having been given the cold shoulder by the Frenchman.

But, I suspect the person who has told us about the release clause has also indicated that their client wants to come here and what sort of package he’d be willing to sign up to. I can’t see another fall at the last fence. The only issue is the likes of West Ham and Chelsea matching the £40m because hey, he must be a good player if we’re after him!

Hopefully, having signed the Frenchman with the German sounding name, we can grab the Frenchman with the Italian sounding name next!

Initial thoughts are that this is instead of O'Riley, maybe the price got too high and we saw better value in this deal in the end (despite costing more). He's quick, strong, two footed, creative and works hard. Center mid vibes.

We'll just have to wait and see who else comes in and out before knowing. Trust the plan etc.

I wonder if the O’Riley thing is actually about Kadioglu. Get him and it frees Hinshelwood to play CM and we don’t need o’riley and then we can afford this bloke?
I think we really want a creative and goalscoring center mid. Hence trying for Dewsbury-Hall and linked with O'Riley. Looks like Rutter has all the right attributes so wonder if we plan on shifting him slightly further back. But tbh who knows lol.

Like many others, I don’t get this at all. I hope to be proven wrong, obviously, but I’ve seen him play a few times and never understood the hype. Add that to the fact we’re probably losing someone in order to bring him in… and we have bigger squad gaps that need covering…

It all feels very Chelsea at the moment.

It's a lot of money by our standards but Tony won't pay more than he thinks a player is worth. And Rutter is only 22, so hard to argue he's peaked and found his level in the Championship.

If there are outgoings I doubt it will be specifically to make room for Rutter -- it'll either be players who are not wanted or those whose valuation has been met. So I'm sanguine about it all though I obviously don't want to see Pedro go.

They were fighting relegation at the time. Was probably a relegation clause which wouldn't be active if they were still in the PL.

It's still "profit" and may have been the only way they were gonna get him at that time when there was a strong risk of them going down, whilst giving them what they thought was a strong chance of survival.

Feel that guy's pain, genuine fan right there.

And Rutter sounds like a hell of a player, which he should be for 40 mill !
There are some decent Leeds fans around. I feel sorry for this guy as he’s clearly a big fan and very knowledgeable.
However, I’m not sorry for the knuckle dragging loons that I’ve also come across at Elland Road.
Buy a player at £35m and have a £40m release clause! 😂

Basically he’s holding back the tears

Sounds like a balanced philosophical fan though.

Leeds might be a good destination for a couple of our players on loan as part of any deal?
There is no deal with Leeds. The only say they have would be to offer a better contact than us and get the player to stay. Otherwise unless he wants to stay anyway, he comes to us.

Is this guy a bit of an all rounder in an attacking sense? Or does he have a preferred position? Can’t work it out from usual websites.

Weir does.…..all of us speculating who is in/out on here is fun but we’re all probably miles off

I watched a few Leeds games last year and there were two clear standout players. Summerville and Rutter. Both so positive.

One minute he looked like a big strong centre forward, holding the ball up. Then he drops into a 10, turns onto the ball and runs at defenders. Then he's a wide forward and goes round the outside with pace.

Delighted if this happens. Pace pace pace this season.

Why what? Why do I not understand the strategy?
IMO having Rutter, Gruda, Enciso, Joao Pedro, Sarmiento, Osman (+ Buonanotte) all on the books with their primary position being number 10, means we're going to have to let some of them go, but they're all really talented players and I think we should be giving them proper game time to develop here. I can't see how the club will be able to keep them all happy in the long term, and we will end up having to let one or two go for far less than had we given them proper game time to develop them. When we're spending £40million on a player we already have lots of already, that doesn't make sense to me.

You could argue some of the players I mentioned can play other positions, but then you'd have the same issue in those positions too.
