Fond memories of the shithole as a teenager, made me appreciate what we had.

I will say the chippy near the ground did a cracking chicken and chips combo back in the day though.
Yes, the chippy was good and the owners were sorry to see us go.
I believe the dislike was something regarding the rent we paid when coming to the end of our tenancy...I think?

1974, special birthday treat. Coach to Priestfield with my dad. Nearing the ground we drove through a mob of the North Stand’s finest running around the streets in a “we’re here because we’re here because we’re here because we’re here”fashion.
A sea of tank tops, star jumpers, dangerously wide flares,a splash of tartan and platform shoes. They generously shared the Rainham End with the locals. The PA announcer played Gary Shearston’s version of I get a kick out of you.
We lost 2-1 and we’re 22nd in the league.Happy days.

First English team I saw on TV (they showed a game once a week on Swedish TV but couldn't afford PL rights)... Gillingham vs Grimsby in the 00/01 season. Don't remember who won it... only things I remember is thinking the quality was a fair bit from the Euro 2000 tournament and that the tiny old man in the Gillingham midfield appeared to be exactly everywhere.
Andy Hessenthaler is probably the midfielder.

Compost heap.
Chatham is the cesspit
I prefer Tracey Emin's description of Margate as being the boil on Britain's bum.

The set piece coach wants to revisit that footage in training on Monday as they didn’t even clear the wall. Shocking.

I think the Brighton fans kicked the gates in before they were even open. Comical really when you look back….

November 1987 was mental - I remember, must have been around 100 of us getting off the train at Gillingham station and literally steaming down the High street opposite letting off rook scarer bangers and people attacking anyone that looked fair game.

Police rounded up most of us and held us in a police station yard for a couple of hours and escorted us to the ground just in time for kick off.
Remember a few Brighton were in their enclosure next to us and kicked off with the locals.
After the game I recall their lot luzzing milk bottles at us and lots of punches being exchanged.

Crazy season for me as a young impressionable 16 year old !!
