Ed Bassford. - Lord Bracknell. ( and still going very strong. Ros- Lady Bracknell )
very much the unsung hero of our campaign Ed. A terrifically sharp brain and wit and wouldn’t let any of the LDC bs pass without scrutiny
A lot of people forget this but, that picture there and the people in it, to a lot of our current crop of fans who know feck all about our struggles and try to rewrite history, we owe all of our gratitude, because if it wasn’t for them and their unceasing work behind the scenes with Dick and Martin , we wouldn’t have Falmer and a football club.
special mention to Smiley Miley- Ade on the right. His skill and financial expertise was invaluable to the team in getting the Falmer paperwork and enquiry documentation in a state to present in front of a top legal team on the enquiry.
also to those others we all know have stepped away and those have now gone.
a HUGE HEARTFELT THANKYOU TO YOU ALL

It was an honour to be invited.
It also should be said that both Paul Barber and Tony Bloom gave speeches in the boardroom that recognised by names of Paul Welch, Ed (and Roz), Sarah Watts and Roy Chuter as well as the many hundreds who gave up so much of their time to organise and take part in some of the most ingenious , far reaching and publicity grabbing actions ever seen in Sussex (and beyond). Both made it clear that without all the fights to get Dick Knight in, getting the club back to Brighton and the permanent stadium that not only would we not be where we are today but that we would likely not exist in a professional sense like we do now.
And that is on each and every fan who wrote a letter, delivered a leaflet, signed a petition, marched at a party conference, funded flowers, banners etc, contacted the media, came up with, marketed and pushed fans utd etc

Lovely to see Peter and Wendy at the forefront of the photo. It certainly was a mad time in our history, but I weirdly have very fond memories of all the shenaningans and the camaraderie of those dark days.

Big shout out to Lord Steve Bassam too ( who I worked closely on the Referendum campaign with ) He steered through the referendum and got firmly behind the Falmer campaign. He was a very effective political voice for the importance of the City to have a modern new stadium once the Application had been called in..
We bicker, complain about the minutiae, tease each other, try and resolve geo political issues, slag off the government (whichever one) and laugh at Leeds and Chelsea, but back then there was just ONE issue- our survival - so we all pulled in the same direction and pulled off our greatest victory.
