[Misc] Help. Apple Pay being declined

In work in the payments industry and work with all digital wallets regularly.
The main difference between a DW transaction like ApplePay vs a traditional credit card transaction is that the DW version is tokenised. This is almost always done by the card issuer. 99% of the times this is where the fault is and I would guess that the rep on the phone wouldn't have visibility of this. Give it a day or so and it will work just fine.

Tokens need to be decrypted and validated for each trxn. I reckon this is the leg that is failing.

Is it just using apps it's being declined? Does it fail when tapping a machine in a shop?
Not tried this. I did switch to using the card directly in the Lieferando app, i.e. not via Apple Pay, and it worked fine.

You mentioned you’re abroad, was that when the problem started or was it working after you travelled?

Sorry. I wasn’t clear. I live abroad and was trying to add a UK card.

It's probably pretty key as it will help identify where the issue is. I'd expect the bank to tell you if they can see the transactions coming through and being declined.

That said you'd expect the guy to offer up that information as your card would not look "fine" if transactions were being declined.

Do you have any other cards on the phone you can try, just to figure out if it's a "your phone" issue, or not?
I called again, Barclays can see all the transactions and can see them being declined. There was a brief and temporary block on my card yesterday, for a an unspecified security reason (he couldn’t see the reason), but this was lifted and as far as they can see the card is unblocked and active. He could not see, or understand, why it’s still being declined.

Grrrrrr

If you card is working fine, why not just use you card to pay for transactions and sort your phone out when you get back to the UK

Google Pay is working FABULOUSLY.

Just sayin'.
I had a problem with three Amazon payments showing on my account last weekend, rang the bank, reported the fraud and they sorted it all out and cancelled my card and said my new card would be in the post.

A minute or so after the call my new card details popped up on google pay on my phone as if by magic, I was well impressed with that.

This happened to me last week after tapping in and out trains & the underground. That evening I was declined trying to pay for dinner. Obviously I blamed that greedy tool the Mayor of London.

I can use the card directly on the app (ie not via Apple Pay), but it means i then have to open the banking app to authorize it. Bit of a faff but it means I won’t starve, Apple Pay is/was just two clicks of the button on the side…far easier.

see my earlier post. Apple pay works with tokenising your card number. That is the only difference. If its failing but card is working then the tokenisation leg is failing. Thats all on your issuer.
