The only offal I have struggled with was small intestine. The intestine itself was fine, but when I squeezed it a grey paste like substance emerged which was slightly off putting.

Favourites are liver, heart, sweetbreads and deep fried battered lamb brains.

Had a few delicacies whilst travelling - became a bit of a thing at work for my lot to try to freak me out with local food. They never did 🤣
Crickets in Mexico (several times, as they’re delicious, particularly with guacamole in a tortilla, or as a beer snack)
Mezcal with a worm (Mexico)
Frog porridge (Singapore)
Sheep head stew and sheep’s foot (Saudi Arabia)
Fish eye (Japan)
Wok-fried frogs (China)
Elvers (Spain)
A whole fish head (Malaysia)
Century Egg, Sea slug and cow’s stomach plus a few other ‘specials’ (Hong Kong)
Durian (Singapore)
Top work.

I’ve definitely got the sea slug and fish eye ticked off. Enjoyed both. Also had Durian. Smells worse than it tastes but still not a massive fan. The crickets are going on the “want” list.

Parsnips can do one and take turnips and swedes with them. As for custard: one of the most disgusting examples of British 'food' there is. Looks and tastes like yellow puke. Rhubarb crumble and rhubarb and ginger jam on the other hand, yes, please.
:annoyed: ALL custard is ace, although the thicker the better to my mind.

Anyway, I've had a few interesting bits and pieces over the years - reindeer and alligator amongst them, even chomped some aloe vera plant, but in Thailand in February I tried durian (vomit fruit). Once I got past the smell, it wasn't TOO bad - quite creamy (not as creamy as custard! ) but I found that for about five hours afterwards, on a fairly regular basis, I got the occasional small durian burp which wasn't overly wonderful. Later on I was in Vietnam where they do cut slices of durian at roadside stalls, and I saw one bloke preparing this by wearing thick plastic bags on both hands and keeping his distance as best he could!

Yeah agree about frogs legs being like chicken - but with a LOT more effort, for little gain. Had them in France where I also had snails and horse.
I took a date to a French restaurant. She had frog’s legs and a chicken breast……but a smashing personality.

Without doubt during the 70’s and 80’s I’ve eaten a horse burger around Wembley stadium. Knowing what I do now I wouldn’t have touched them at the time.
Worst burger I ever had was at Oxford's Manor Ground. It was full of suspicious-looking still-pulsing meat plus non-meat substance in an arrangement of which Picasso would be proud.

I still shudder just thinking about it.

with these kind of threads I always wonder why people have an aversion to one thing, but nott to others. If someone is going to eat cow, pig, chicken, why not horse, dog, cat ,or magpie? Prawns are ok, but snails are iffy?

No point being squeamish over one thing and not the other. Surely if you are going to eat animals then better to eat as much of something as possible (brains, offal, etc) , rather than just waste it

Reminds me of my Brothers ex, she was a strict vegetarian, except Chicken, cause there are loads of them. Never understood that "logic" at all

Offal is often quite strong tasting which might put some people off, I guess. But I agree, why be squeamish?

I’m a meat eater but wouldn‘t fancy spleen and lung.
Although there’s no logic to that. If you‘re willing to eat animal flesh why be fussy about what part of the animal?
Becuase some parts are tastier than others? By your logic if you're willing to eat a vegetable why are you fussy about cutting off the roots? Or an orange and the skin?

My mum used to cook pigs trotters when I was a kid, i hated them. Not sure if it was child cruelty or she thought they were nice.

A Romanian delicacy, if you can call it that, is Ciorba di burta . . . . Or tripe soup, with garlic and served with yoghurt.

It is f***ing rank.
Callos is a lovely Spanish tripe based dish as well.

As in my earlier posts, I will try anything in the way of food.

But, I will be completely honest here, I did draw the line at Balut.
It’s a Phillipino ‘delicacy’ where a fertilised egg with a partially developed chick is steamed or boiled and eaten straight from the shell.

I was offered it in Olongapo City, where I m afraid, for about the only time in my life, I refused to eat something new.

I think I would prefer celery.

When my daughter was tricked into trying tongue, she loved it, until she was told what it was, she has never stopped telling us how awful it was since.😂😂😂
Many years ago, I was walking along Brighton seafront enjoying some cockles until a friend likened them to bogies. Never eaten them since. Cockles, that is. And bogies.
