What I took from this clip was how few of our MPs bothered to turn up to work for this debate on such a serious issue. The protection of children. Shameful.
Well MPs tend to pair off don't they? But I don't disagree that the optics are quite shocking, because we're talking about the real lives of people (children!) here. Pair off when there's a debate on interest rates, not on this subject FFS.

As for the outrage on this thread from @Chicken Run and @n1 gull - I get that you might consider @WATFORD zero was patronising, but where was your outrage when the last useless, incompetent, workshy round of Tory leadership were sitting on this? Labour shouldn't get away with doing the same of course, but it feels to me that WZ is hardly the only one playing party politics on this thread.

My suspicion is that if @WATFORD zero ceased to exist “Playing party politics” on NSC would probably decrease quite dramatically too

Well probably.

But you're as bad as each other in this instance: you with your faux outrage at Labour - you were nowhere to be seen while the Tories sat on it, so I'm afraid faux is exactly what it is - and him with his needlessly patronising response to your faux outrage.

I hadn’t even heard of him until 2016…..

Anyway you’re quite right, having reflected over the last couple of days i think it’s time for me to grow up and ignore him 👍

Edit as for faux, when i listened to what the men did to these girls i was outraged

Whilst @Is it PotG? had managed to wind up a few of the regular tiddlers with this X/Twitter link (which now seems to have disappeared) I genuinely wondered what the Government response was in the house. I could only find the Katie Lam clip on all the normal mainstream media, but not the Government response, so I asked if anyone had seen it.

@PascalGroß Tips kindly found the response on X/Twitter and posted it above, where upon I realised it was the exact same story that was originally pushed by the MSM some time ago, and then resurrected by Elon Musk a few weeks ago. I then pointed out the idiocy of the various responses to my request, and posted a link to what the Government are actually doing, something you specifically asked for.

It's also been explained, more eloquently and less condescendingly since

The other thing these spats have done is distracted attention from what Jess Phillips announced in her statement which opened that debate, which includes creation of a Child Protection Authority.

Here it is, from Hansard. She also notes the latest data from the Grooming Gangs Task Force (the one good thing the Tories actually did on this issue) and progress on other vital work around auditing national data etc that Labour announced in January.

Please take 5 minutes to read it.

The Tories are equally accountable that is why I’m not playing party politics

All the political class have failed these girls that is why we need an enquiry

Expose the police, social services and politicians

That is also unfortunately why I don’t think it will happen

The establishment looked the other way and no they won’t allow an independent enquiry and it stinks

Jesus wept. What part of "this has already been done" do people not understand?!

To reiterate: IICSA was a 7-year statutory and independent inquiry. Statutory means that when the Inquiry called someone to give evidence, their participation was mandatory. It included investigations related to all three of the categories you mention above, as well as many others. Every single one of these reports is available. They expose exactly what the failings have been across British institutions for decades, and proposed specific remedies for them.

Please, click this link and see for yourself:

Let's take the report specific to allegations about CSA in Westminster itself. Within that report there's a list of everyone the inquiry requested documents or witness statements from, or who was called to give testimony. It includes, quite literally, the good, the bad and the ugly of the British establishment.

So, please tell us, what is it specifically that this Inquiry didn't achieve that you would like a new one to do? Expose police, social services and politicians how??

I’ve made my position clear and I’m even boring myself

Many organizations want a public enquiry and I follow my lead from Maggie Oliver amongst others who can explain why we need a public enquiry better than me

I’m really not sure why a national enquiry into mass child abuse triggers you so much

Because hasn't he just said it's already been done? If he's right then surely acting on the findings is what needs to happen, not another enquiry.

There has not been a full public independent inquiry

That is a fact

A public inquiry requires all parties to attend and give evidence under oath

No one in authority has been held to account

As some silly old sod once said, I salute your Indefatigability

I'm just wondering how many more attempts you are going to make to explain this in increasingly simpler terms until the penny finally drops, at which point you'll be called patronising or condescending

I’m simply explaining to you that we have already had one and asking you to clarify what you think is still needed.

I’ll also suggest you clarify what you’re saying here about Maggie Oliver because in January she said the exact opposite (link to source). Here’s the quote:

We’ve already had a national abuse inquiry – seven years, 20 recommendations and none implemented.

We need someone who is going to do something not just talk – more empty promises and political manoeuvrings.

I’m persisting mostly to ensure that his misinformation doesn’t go unchecked, for the benefit of other readers. I don’t have much confidence that the penny will descend along the y-axis anytime soon.
