1920's Germany, Argentina on and off past 50 years, '00's Zimbabwe, Venezuela past decade or so. it's so frequently demostrated that loose monetry policy trashes currency value it's comical to pretend otherwise. there is no infinite money glitch without screwing the economy.

fortunatly we have people in charge of fiscal and monetry policies that dont belief in fairy tales and will avoid those mistakes.
Somehow I knew you were going to say that, as if I havent heard this a million times before,

If spending by "printing" money, which as I have already pointed out, is what all countries with fiat currencies do every day necessarily leads to high inflation then most developed countries would have at least high inflation., if not hyperinflation. There have been no cases of hyperinflation in developed countries over the last 20 years.

What people who use these examples from history fail to identify is that increasing the volume of currency in the economy was not the cause of hyperinflation. While governments in these cases did have to create more currency to maintain the demand for rapidly decreasing value, they did this after the hyperinflation had begun.
the true causes of hyperinflation for all four are strikingly similar and can be summed in four categories:
  • Debt owed in foreign currency
  • Reduced production output
  • Insufficient adjustment of taxes to balance the economy
  • Continued deficit spending

What are you asking for if it isn't continued deficit spending?

Well, really. Make sense man. The help is there. There’s little anyone can do if people aren’t willing to accept it.

This whole argument is ridiculous and there is a handful of people on one side of the argument who are frankly, pompous and self righteous. Which would be fine if they were also being truthful and accurate.
The help might be there in theory, but if it takes months to process your claim, then it's not going to help you this winter. If this had been in their manifesto, people could have got in the queue a lot sooner. One guy on the radio said he applied online. Never heard anything, finally got hold of someone who said noone is actually processing online applications, and did it over the phone with him, which he wasn't actually supposed to do, and would have got a bollocking if his supervisor was aware. Hardly sounds like the machinery if Govt is set up to deal with these hundreds of thousands of people now scrambling to access the so-called 'help'

Yep this year it was £75 a month extra since April I believe.
Except my brother and his neighbour's rent went up £100 a month in January, to be fair to the landlady she hadn't increased it since 2017.

It will be interesting to compare the impact of withdrawing fuel payments with the numbers of pensioners who either died in hospital (or after being thrown out of their hospital beds and back into their nursing homes to infect others) during the Pandemic. All because the NHS, already on the brink of collapse after being starved of investment funds for over a decade because of what the Tories described as ‘necessary austerity’ cuts was ill equipped to deal with a pandemic.

.
Whataboutery. Luckily for you (and your red mates) we will never ever know how Labour would have managed a pandemic that none of us had ever been through before. Are you really so blinkered that you think it wouldn't have been full of mistakes, greed and issues that would have resulted in people dying?. I 100% want to see investigations into these reported dodgy contracts and for those guilty to face the music. Same with those in the public who defrauded and took money they weren't entitled to, but let's not pretend these same issues wouldn't be there irrespective of who was in charge.

They wouldn’t be. Boris Johnson’s government was a one off. An exceptional mob of criminals. We rarely see the likes of them. No other party except maybe Reform would have been so deliberately opportunistic and corrupt.

It might bring you some kind of comfort to think otherwise but you’re very wrong. And I suspect you know that.

There really is no point in a discussion with you. Have a good read back on your deeply offensive posts towards the elderly.

I'm neither Labour or Conservative, but under no circumstances could I argue, discuss, or debate this disgusting vindictive decision by one of the three witches..

Just so you have some grasp of where I'm coming from....... My working life was for the elderly. I think I was reasonably good at it too. I don't receive WFA, neither do I need it. But I do have an inkling about how the elderly view their income against expenditure....and the lengths they will go to stay within bounds of their finances.

It is that, why I care about this bitch,s vindictive decision. The Labour Party have been in power for 5 minutes. I waited 14 years for something better to happen.

So far......an absolute f***ing shambles. It doesn't bode well for the future.
just to clear up any misunderstanding, you are a tory. hope this helps

Like I said, we'll never know so you get to take the moral high ground. You are entitled to your opinion but I think it's delusional.

Well you have forgotten very quickly what Johnson’s government was like but it seems you don’t think he did much wrong anyway.

We DO know exactly how they operated during Covid so again, you’re quite, quite wrong.

You’re deluded if you think others would act like they did.

I don't doubt you're a good chap but, like pretty much everything you've written on this thread, this post indicates you are either trolling or just ignorant on this topic.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it's the latter, largely because of your track record on this site.

This will be my final post to you on this subject - I do hope you actually go and read up some more.

There will be additional help, in the form of pension credits, available to some who are currently not claiming them, either through ignorance (not knowing about them), pride (not wanting to ask for handouts) or fear of the bureaucratic process required to get them. Pension Credits have been in place since the early 2000s. If hundreds of thousands of people, who are entitled to free money are not claiming it, that tells its own story.

Beyond that, there are still a huge swathe of people who do not qualify for pension credits, as they sit just above the line. Because of the cliff-edge implementation of this, it means someone who sits £1 above the line will be £300 poorer than someone who sits exactly on the line. And if you are trying to live on c£11-12k a year, £300 is a significant amount of money, despite your flippant attitude to those in this position.

As it stands, there is no additional help for these people, despite you being sure there is. Or maybe you meant food banks and charity assistance - because that's all that is left.

Nope, I remember and won't forgive them for some of the things they did, likewise I'm mature enough to understand some of the mistakes were in the pursuit of trying to do the right thing.

And you're deluded for thinking others wouldn't act in a similar manner. Being in power is very different than sniping from the sidelines or being captain hindsight but we aren't ever going to agree on that so let's leave it there.

And right there is your total lack of ability to judge people.

Just because there are some areas that I seriously disagree with Labour Party policy, doesn't designate me....or anyone else for that matter....as a Tory.

Personally, I thought this was a free country and those people who are "Tory", also have a point of view...( not one I often agree with mind .)

I often read your posts and think you are a little odd, to say the least. I thankyou for confirming it.

Some very objectionable posters on this thread.

I can only put it down to being bitter that their party lost.

Some of the insults and “facts” being thrown about are bizarre.

I am, for the first time, putting a thread on ignore.

Harks back to the bear pit days.

The BBC have helpfully posted a searchable list of how MPs voted on the winter fuel payment.
BBC News - Winter fuel cuts to go ahead after government wins Commons vote - BBC News
Peter Kyle and Chris Ward voted Against the amendment to reverse the cut. Sian Berry voted for it.

Can I suggest that people make their feelings known to their elected representatives?
