But surely they will still have the European Commitments anyway? Why would it matter who they drew??

It's a bit like that conundrum where you've got a Fox, Chicken and corn and they will all eat other if left alone. Suffice it to say, you can't fit all the games in if they draw each other.

Nooo Scott McLeish is bound to score a hattrick against us.

One for the oldies.
He'll need Ray Wilkins to be on top form, threading those balls through to him.

Worthing
Makes sense from the point of view of lower league teams who are more likely to benefit from a lucrative match day.

But for medium sized clubs like us, it just significantly reduces our chances of winning it.

Whatever though. Orient at home please.

Old system never worked - we have never got anywhere near winning it ! 🤣🤣

The week the third round is due to be played the Champions League is playing their first round of group games, so those 4 teams will play their league cup games the following week. That is the same week the Europa League start their group games.

Therefore the only issue is if Spurs and Man Utd had drawn any of the 4 CL sides. So the draw has been unfairly weighted in favour of all 6 clubs in the major European tournaments (not Chelsea) when they could have just found a way to keep the Spurs and United away from the Champions League sides.

There is no reason that Man City couldn’t play Arsenal for example.

Really this is all UEFAs doing by expanding the European competitions and then insisting the first two weeks are exclusive to a different tournament each week.

I was thinking about him earlier, wondering if Jay Williams’ notoriety within our fan base might get to McGleish levels.
It deserves to! He'll only escape that if by some miracle the verdict is deep bruising and only out for two weeks max. Sadly not likely :(
