As l mentioned in another thread, after yesterday's defensive debacle, I think Cashin just has to be given his chance for the Wet Spam game.

It's time for him to stand up and be counted. If not l'd expect him to be banging on the Manager's door demanding to know why he is being overlooked. If he isn't deemed good enough to play, even in an emergency situation like this, why is he even here?

To avoid up being overrun in midfield again, l'd want Baleba to resume his usual midfield duties.

All 5’9” of him .

There's no way Lewis chose to man mark Wissa and chase him 15-20 yards into the Brentford half to an area where he could do no damage at all. That's got to be following an instruction. An instruction that makes no sense to me at all when you have a mobile player like Baleba, who could pick up a player in the hole and screen the defence as teams have done for years and years.

That's precisely it.

Lewis Dunk shouldn't be playing for a European-chasing Premier League chasing side right now, but that European-chasing Premier League side has very few alternatives.

When selected, he'll go out and give it his very best, just as he always has. Mr 110% wearing his Albion heart on his sleeve.

His fitness isn't there, and that can be cruelly exposed in this division, especially against players like a fit-and-firing Brian Mbeumo.

Some of the comments I've read about him are pretty poor. We're all disappointed at how the last few weeks have gone, but don't turn on a club legend who has contributed so much to getting us to the position where 10th in the Premier League feels underwhelming.

I understand the want to defend him but why is he not fit enough then?

I feel a lot of fans are reaching for excuses to defend him when ultimately he looks miles off where he needs to be unfortunately. I don’t understand the fitness thing, he should be fit enough at this stage.

Hard to disagree. Also match fitness is an oddity. I never believe it to be true fitness but more so of the mental state.

Sadly Dunk has slowed in the last season and a bit. He is often now exposed. Some of it is from tactics but much is to do with his decline in standard.

He's coming back from injury & looks like he hasn't healed properly yet. He wouldnt be playing if Webster & Igor were fit. You can't just say "he should be fit". Should Ferdi & Milner "be fit"

Pretty ridiculous comment.

Nobody is claiming he is unfit due to lack of effort in training or too many Benson and Hedges

He is obviously struggling with injury. Now it could be that this is a wear and tear thing which will never significantly improve, which is what many are suggesting. But we don't know this. We will next season.

You can see the fella grimace when moving. He's playing through the pain because we're shit out of options and he loves the club. He's obviously not at the top of his game, but it's a measure of the man that he is out there

Absolute nonsense, it’s not the 1970’s, if he wasn’t medically fit enough to play, he wouldn’t be.

Unless you’re saying that our medical department are negligent and allow our professionals to play when they shouldn’t.

Ultimately, he’s not at the level.

Absolute nonsense. Listen to any pro - they will all say they are almost never 100% fit. It’s not negligence at all, I suspect he’s playing through an acceptable (to him and the medics) degree of pain. He is ‘medically fit to play’, he‘s just not near 100%.

I’m talking absolute nonsense but you ‘suspect’. Jesus wept 🤦‍♂️

It not his fitness, that can be improved in the close season. It’s not his ability, i think he’s a brilliant footballer with a great range of passing. It’s not his form, that will return. It’s his pace, that’s it, nothing anymore complicated than that. The tactics ask for recovery pace. He simply doesn’t have it. He is always going to be exposed with a high line.

I've been consistent in my comments on Dunk. He is playing in a formation that isn't doing him any favours and I'm not criticising him for playing at the moment because we don't have anybody else.

Having said which, earlier in the season he came back into the team way too early when there were options. That's not his fault either.

If Webster hadn’t got crocked (again) he wouldn’t be starting (other than in place of suspended/injured JPVH).

Spot on. However earlier in the season I believe we dropped Igor to put Dunk back in the team when he was barely back from injury so you never know

It's not about negligence. It's just lack of options.

Dunky can get through a game, just. So he plays
