The weirdest part of this story, is how a multi-millionaire can't get a shirt, tie and jacket sorted within an hour? I reckon I could have probably sorted a shirt / tie / jacket combo from the Wimbledon shop, or jumped in a cab to Wimbledon High Street, got the gear and probably got back before the end of the first set.

I can't believe for one moment that Hamilton's management (or Hamilton himself) didn't read the stipulations on the Royal Box invite. I think he got exactly the result he was hoping for - and watching the tennis was never part of it.

Trevor McDonald is to all intents and purposes white.
He would be described by a black person as a coconut.
Brown on the outside.White on the inside.
He is part of the establishment and a very wealthy man.
He is also getting on a bit and hardly likely to rock the boat.
Hamilton is young, black and feisty.A different animal completely.

You my friend, are a bellend.

You only have to wear a jacket if you go to the Pavilion at Lords. You only get in there if you are a MCC member.

I know, it's more the banning of fancy dress, that sort of thing - I HATE fancy dress at cricket, but each to their own right?

It's the Royal Box, he could have worn what he liked elsewhere within Centre Court, but the Royal Box on finals day, come on, there is nothing wrong with being smart, it isn't a class thing, it's actually just showing a bit of respect of tradition and etiquette.

If Tony Bloom invited you to the Boardroom for a match as his guest, are you saying you wouldn't bother as there is a dress code!?

TBH - I just don't get dress codes, what exactly is the point. Why do we care what other people are wearing? I have to put trousers and shirt on to come to an office for absolutely no obvious reason other than it's the done thing. Why do we want everyone to look the same?

To you second point, probably not - because my enjoyment would be tempered by having to dress so formally. Shorts and t-shirt for me

Sorry didnt read the full story that it was Royal Box it just annoys me that people with money can buy tickets ad lib but the man in the streeet has to go in a ballot. My old boss sold his company for £19m but still has to apply and ballot for tickets and airline companies in USA offering fights and centre court tickets in deals to include either Mens or Womens final.

Either you are one confused poster, or you are suggesting someone with £19m doesn't have any money?

I think it's important we don't lose the ceremony of dressing up smart for important events and occasions. It's dead easy to bowl up in jeans and a t-shirt, but making an effort for everyone also brings a sense of occasion, like a wedding for example. Think we can all be a bit lazy with appearances, so keeping dress codes isn't stuffy in my opinion, it's just retaining a sense of tradition, after all, the Sunday Best is a working class concept of turning out well at the end of a week.

One would think he'd be used to wearing an uncomfortable restrictive strip of fabric over his chest on Sunday afternoons by now.

Exactly, you wouldn't expect to get into a Cruise ships dinning room wearing jeans and T-shirt on one of their formal themed nights would you?

If that was an opinion poll, we might get NSC's first 100% result!

I wouldn't - Because you'll find me deep frying my nads in a vat of boiling oil before I went on a) a cruise holiday and b) a 'themed' night anywhere'.

Broadly though, I'd expect to do most things dressed exactly as I please rather than some old fashioned perception of 'formal' or 'smart'.

Adolf Hitler was a smart dressed man.....he would have got in!

Jesus would have struggled with the sandals I suspect.

All bullshine to me.

Re dress codes - I had to laugh yesterday when the Greek leader was trying to get his bailout deal but failing miserably. Is it any coincidence the Greeks have been shafted when their leader goes tieless and his former Finance Minister gives press conferences in a t-shirt? They dress like couldn't give a f**k and isn't it common knowledge that first impressions and appearances are crucial? FFS, even the door attendants in Brussels were wearing ties.

Nice segue from racing car driver not getting into a tennis final, to European financial crisis and Greek bailout. Impressive stuff, if you're not in 24hour news broadcasting, perhaps you should be?
