I said he was a bang average PL coach at best, with a 6 game hot streak (at the start of a season) literally as good as it’ll ever get.

It’s all relative for us, what preceded GP - CH pragmatism, ultra defensive safety first PL status saving football, to the detriment of entertainment… of course by proxy Potterball snd 15th-9th seemed like a beautiful waking coma … we had zero expectation and (naturally) he was allowed to flourish accordingly… time, patience and decent enough football, boy we lapped it up… the barren spells were mostly forgiven - after all we were grateful, we were trying to attack … wow !!

We were unique, the timing in our PL gestation likewise… he/we got lucky, perfect bedfellows.

But then, he took the big bucks, ran and decided he could bring his slow burn (one for fabs) process to entitled BIG TIME clubs like Chelsea and West Ham and their curious ‘way…’

He tells us he’s not thick - okay, maybe from a mercenary perspective - yeah… but from a place of believing his own hype and hubris - what an idiot, he’s never going to have it so good again.

He was lucky to have us, not the other way round.

Bang average to us ?!? back then ? - more than enough… he should have stayed, and I suspect he knows it and not deep down either.
Must admit I struggled with the hype around him when people started call him the best English manager around without actually achieving anything in the PL (yes I know it's not all about the PL)

This summer and next season with West Ham will show us if he was a fluke at Brighton or he actually is a top flight coach

West Ham were a mess this season before he came in, not an overnight fix

I don’t disagree… but will he be given the time ? and then 15th - 9th, simply won’t do for the Hammers.

Cannot get on board with the majority of views on this thread.

I loved having Potter as manager and was gutted when he left but bear him no ill will whatsoever.

I understood the reaction when he came back with Chelsea but in my opinion we all need to move on. What he did for us was fantastic and now he’s at West Ham the vitriol is not needed in my view.

I'd say he has till Christmas time to start getting a tune out of them

They might be about to lose their best player to a long term ban as well, so could be interesting!

Ha as I've said before. It's amusing that so much was made of his masters in emotional intelligence. The guy has zero!

I was thinking about that, and it occurred to me that the kind of person who would seek out a degree in what for many is a natural human quality, is perhaps aware of a deficiency in that regard.

Having watched that post match interview I'm genuinely gobsmacked. A quite bizarre performance. Notable their media bod called time when Potter was clearly on the brink of imploding. He was all over the place and had clearly lost the plot. Or maybe, was it deliberately performative to engineer the sack from the owners? It appeared the performance of somebody who'd had enough. I'm conflicted.

His thin skin was often apparent during his time at Brighton. He got rattled with Brighton fans booing followed by his oft quoted history lesson comments. West Ham fans would always be way more hostile towards him during a sticky spell of form. He got away with a lot during his lean spells with us due a fair chunk of time being the empty stadium covid period + having a tolerant owner. How many owners would have stood for zero home wins in a calendar year? He's in a very different environment now.

His shortcomings were apparent at Chelsea. They're being confirmed at West Ham. The clues were there at Brighton. Aside that flying start to the season before he walked and the tail end of the previous season, his time at Brighton proved average to poor. It took three years to click at Brighton. Not a chance he'll get that time at West Ham.

A landscape gardening business with Dan Ashworth or a rebuilding 'project' with Southampton beckons.

For the sake of his MH it would be far better for him to walk rather than pile more pain on himself by sticking it out in pursuit of another paid-up contract. Some things are more important

Just far enough away from LDC
A few of us called it vastly overrated and I still believe Caceido put him on the map, that season we were piss poor until he put him in the side. Despite having Bissouma, Mac, Trossard, Cucurella, Veltman, Lamptey, Dunk, Welbeck, March etc we went on a huge winless run with boring football.
And gross who was......er not playing/ starting regularly for a while!

"deliberately performative". The more I watch it I have the same suspicion but it's hard to say what he is hoping to achieve? Is it as basic as trying to show their fans how genuinely he feels their pain. To me a risky strategy as it could just come across a genuinely broken man who really does want out.

He's sitting on ££££millions so I doubt very much, as a family man that he is, that he will ever regret going to Chelsea. And I don't blame him in that sense. But football-wise he should never have touched West Ham after the Chelsea nonsense. He should have waited for another club with less entitlement/expectancy.

But he was good for us and the football was so much better than the latter months of CH's reign

When he was appointed I said to my STH West Ham mates at work that this isn't going to be a quick fix, he'll take at least 3 seasons to impose what he wants. They nodded and agreed this was a long term thing and seemed up for it. They still seem ok with it and accept the season was a right off weeks ago. Whether he'll get the support through another season of similar, I doubt it. But then some of these were Moyes out even after he'd won them a European trophy, so what chance does Potter have?

As to the interview, I still smiled I have to admit. Still love the pantomime surrounding it all and the bloke's a chuffing multi-millionaire, waited to take the basket case club that is West Ham, I'm not going to feel overly sorry or have much sympathy.

What can you do against a world class strike x 2 that’s football and the PL. He leaves with a some respect. Emotional intelligence is not his strong point 😬

He lost his temper more or less all through and was aggressive, dismissive and short towards the reporters. He only just stopped himself in time from swearing and decided to make a sarcastic comment about that and them. He had form with us for that kind of thing and lost a lot of goodwill yet continues to be unable to control his temper and lash out at the nearest target. He'll now have lost goodwill from at least some of them through more self-inflicted lack of self-control and emotional intelligence despite his qualifications. As happened with us, lack of respect has a way of biting back.

I don't hate Potter. Far from it. He was good for us and left us in a far better state than when we came to us both in terms. of results and the way we played.

He may well regret his attitude towards the reporters, but as with things he said when with us, he's done it now.

They're far more likely to lose their best player (Bowen) to a transfer over the Summer
I’m annoyed they haven’t lost Kudus yet. Didn’t the deal to bring him to us fall down because we refused to put in a release clause? They’ve had longer out of him than I like

Entitled fans such as West Ham like the idea of a long term coach but they actually don't have the stomach for it. They'll want him gone by October if they are not around the top 8.
