Stupid decision. More dumbing down by the BBC. MOTD2 is far better than MOTD1 as it's a lighter look with more analysis and Murray comes across as a passionate fan. 'Chappers' is just a dull dull presenter. Get Keown and Nevin in each week at least, they're the only ones that know what they're talking about since Dixon left.

They have jettisoned the wrong Murray...... should have dumped John Murray from 5live rather than the energetic Colin.

Colin's styling has gone right out of the window in recent years. I used to think he was quite 'cutting edge' in the style arena, but his haircuts/clothes/glasses are now anything but. It's all about Manish Bhasin these days.

Glad Murray is leaving - he is very irritating, knowing little about football beyond the Top 4 and whoever happens to be in vogue at any given moment. The popularity of Fighting Talk baffles me - lots of bring pundits saying things which are at best mildly amusing, with Murray in constant forced hysterics.

Chapman is equally uninspiring though. I'm still waiting for the day when James Richardson gets the gig - he's by far the best football presented I've seen - knowing more about football than the BBC punditry and presenting team put together, and has a fantastic style which is equally able to take football seriously but not allow pompous over-reaction to what is, after all, a game into punditry. He would tear BBC pundits to part with sarcasm if they offered up their lame common sense brand of non-expertise ("they had better tactics", "none of us know anything about Slovenia")on one of his shows.

To be honest, I think the whole MoTD format need a big overhaul – presenters, coverage, studio, the lot.

Bobkin Jnr normally records it, and when I occasionally watch it with him, we fast-forward straight through all the guff that these so-called experts are coming out with. And the interviews with the players and managers - most of what they say is pretty bland and obvious, so what's the point? Spend less time on that, and show more football (unless of course there are restrictions on the number of minutes they can show, or something?).

If they HAVE to have pundits, instead of those numpties, they would be better off getting some managers or players on, who could give, I'm sure, a more informed judgement about the current state of the game, instead of the lame old jokes about Hansen and the defence, vs Lineker and the forwards. It's tedious.

A lot of ex-players don't make great pundits – in fact there are some awful ones out there – so why do the TV channels bother. Soccer Saturday is great, but even they annoy me with the shouting out for a goal/near miss.

And I can't stand Lineker as a presenter, who seems bored doing MoTD, let alone when he was on during the Olympics. Jake Humphreys would have been great for MoTD, and I think he'll do a grand job on BT, depending on who is alongside him, of course.

Bollocks decision and classic BBC: once someone has an opinion and deviates from the fence-sitting neutrals, off they go. It's the same with their writers: how exactly does Phil McNulty get paid for his writing which is usually nothing more than stating the bleeding obvious?

.

It's probably obvious from my previous post that I'm quite a big fan of the Guardian Football Weekly podcast, but I would love to see MotD (or any mainstream football coverage) try using journalists, football writers, football experts. I think it's a mistake to assume that you actually need to have played professionally to be knowledgable on football, and I wish BBC would go for people who are a bit more intelligent (Jonathan Wilson, Michael Cox, f***, even Gabrielle Marcotti, much as he's a bit of a dick) rather than just ex-pro 'names.'

The fact that Shearer is one of their leading pundits shows that their direction is entirely focused on name recognition rather than interest or expertise.

As a Guardian fan, you've probably seen this from today's Fiver:

"Colin Murray has been relieved of his Match of the Day 2 presenting duties by the BBC for crimes against banter and Mark Chapman will have the honour of trying to make Michael Owen say something interesting from next season onwards."

Sums it up perfectly for me...

Manish is very well groomed isn't he. I get the impression he probably looks at himself in the mirror once ready and goes "Jesus I'm hot!"
