Well...I can't lift myself for Wednesday. If the players can't lift themselves for the biggest game of the season so far why get excited about the visit of Villa. This club needs a domestic trophy for identity. We are getting ourselves into challenging positions and then not taking advantage. Winning the FAC gets you into the Europa League. We will not qualify for that via our league placings.
This was our chance in the Cup. We blew it. Sure...we dust ourselves down like always but ' get the Amex rocking'...why wasn't it rocking last night? The fans mirrored the players...nervous..edgy and flat. Everyone had an off night.
Younger fans see it as a missed opportunity but there will be more. Older fans know we have to grab those chances when they come. We won't always be riding high like now. Football changes.
Ask Newcastle if Europe is more important than a domestic trophy. 300,000 out on the streets yesterday gives you the answer. After 124 years of nothing...I want something....and I'm worried our friends from SE19 are going to beat us to it.
It’s like some of our fans do not acknowledge the team we are playing, so disrespectful. I’m reflecting on yesterday’s game this mornin, and I can accept the result, we weren’t good enough and quite frankly they have the better spot kick keeper. Worse things happen at sea and all that. One thing I do know is that I will be up for Wednesday against Villa and Saturday against that lot and the players will be too. Quit whining and get behind the team. UTA!

How did the North sound from your spot, the North 9 were definitely making a racket, being between them and the nsk was even more difficult to choose what songs to join in with but I guess the overal noise was louder..?
Very loud - noticeably so. Occasionally the different songs did make things less concentrated but I'd rate it easily in the top 10 or maybe even 5 atmospheres at the Amex and the North made a great noise. Had we won of course then it would have made it even better.

You don't get into Europe for winning a Quarter Final.
You don't get into Europe for winning a Semi Final.
You do get into Europe through finishing high enough in the league.

The table hasn't changed because we lost a penalty shootout.
We still have a great chance of success.
You do get into Europe winning the Final though. Just saying.

Absolutely baffled by the post above suggesting it was in the top 10 atmosphere at the Amex. When you can hear an entire away end singing "is this a library" it tells you all you need to know.

North Stand was pretty good but only had about 5 songs, was quiet in East Upper, couldn't hear anything from West Stand either.

Name me one match in the past two seasons where the away end in any ground hasn't sung "is this a library?". I genuinely thought at times it was amongst the loudest I've heard the Amex even if it wasn't sustained throughout due to the nature of the match.

I'd be staggered if there's anything left for the next 2 games now with both opponents on a high assuming Villa win today.

To have no cover at fullback, lose Rutter and Webster too, I can't see this being anything other than a dismal week capped off with a hiding at Selhurst. Hope to God I'm wrong
Yep nil points from the two games , I predict

Sounded noisy on the television but wasn't sure who was making the noise...

Lot of people getting carried away ....

If we had won we would have had to get past 2 of city, villa , palace and bmuff. And out of those we've won 3 of 6 so far this season. So it was still a lottery with the odds stacked against.
or out of 6 of games against those we've lost only once!!

The table hasn't changed but the fitness of the squad may have after 120 minutes and penalties. As luck will probably have it Villa will glide thru after 90, perhaps even resting key players after 60. Then McGinn and Cash can sharpen their kicking instincts for Wednesday.
I hear what you're saying. But we'll expect Preston to bring the physicality today - Villa will know that they've been in a battle regardless of the outcome.

An extra day's recovery and home advantage again with Villa having to travel away twice might even the playing field.

I'm confident we can do the job on Wednesday.

Don't forget though they have a day less to recover!

Disagree. It was a really really tough game against an excellent side after an international break that clearly took it's toll - sometimes you don't play your best or dominate, there are two teams on the pitch but I felt the players never stopped, never gave up and somehow ended the stronger of the two teams and lost on a coin toss. We are all gutted but we can either a) give up or b) go again and see where it takes us - you going for option a then?
People seem to forget that Pedro, Gomez and Mitoma have very long flights back from their respective matches. Gomez having played in the early hours of Wed. Baleba also had a reasonably long flight as did Minteh and Adingra. It doesn't help his fitness but Minteh was also fasting during the day. For Forest, I think only Murillo had a long flight, Aina less so.
