Over the past year, I've been working on this book, a novel set during that iconic 1996-97 season. Every home match is a chapter as the novel follows Brighton's incredible season and the challenges of being an unemployed teenager in the late '90s. One of the great pleasures of writing this book was meeting and collaborating with Steve Gritt who has kindly written the foreword.

Here's the blurb and recommendations:
Danny’s jobless.
Brighton are homeless.
Everything feels hopeless.
It’s the summer of 1996 and sixteen-year-old Danny has fled the pain of secondary school as quickly as his dad has fled the family home. He doesn’t know what his future holds, his only ambition being to earn enough money to follow Brighton & Hove Albion up and down the country. The future of his beloved Seagulls is equally uncertain - the club’s board have sold their 96-year-old home, The Goldstone Ground, without a plan for what’s next and the fans are furious.

“This excellent tale will bring back memories for many, and is thoroughly recommended to those who were too young to be there as we battled to save the club.” Attila the Stockbroker

“This amazing story highlights how important that season was for every Brighton fan. It stirred a lot of great memories.” Paul McDonald, Brighton winger, 1996-97

Feel free to ask any questions about the book.

This is where you can get it on Amazon.

Do you mention how cold it was on New Year’s Day at plainmoor when Gary Nelson scored the late winner? I swear the players were in trainers that day because of a frozen pitch but maybe my memory is playing tricks. The only good thing about archer and balloti was they gave us a good excuse to jump up and down that day.

January matches on sparse terraces were bitter experiences. Definitely needed the jumping around to survive. Loved seeing Garry Nelson again - legend.

We drove from work the previous night, spending New Year's Eve in Paignton, I think. There were some doubts as to whether the game would be on. All I remember of the match was that Albion lost. I don't remember Gary Nelson.

Yep, lost 2-1. Had a uni mate who lived in Paignton so we were also out on New Year's Eve. The game was the coldest I've ever been at a match. Maybe about 200 Brighton on the open terrace behind the goal. I remember we were all moved into the covered stand at one stage. Not sure it made much difference.

Received Embers last week, but not started yet. Looking forward to a trip down memory lane.
