Definitely Preston Village. Shame they lost those outbuildings of Preston Manor on the left when they widened the road entirely unnecessarily.

I thought this would be a suitable thread on which to post this;
Lovely 5 minute feature on Saltdean Lido on today's Bargain Hunt. Highly recommend a quick look.

Trying to work out which is which.
So the pub in the old picture isn't the taxi office even though the window looks the same. In fact the old pub is now the newer building on the right of the new picture.
Handy with the garage next door - you could have a couple of cheeky ones, then stagger out to the car, fill up with fuel and drive home. Now your only option would be to get a taxi!!

I believe the pub windows upstairs have just been altered in the newer photo, the downstairs windows are the same. I don’t believe the pub is a newer building, I used to live near there and used this pub and it’s an old building.
We obviously can’t see all of the taxi office / garage in the old photo to compare with the new one.

I'd go by the road junction farther up and count back on windows!

It soon makes sense.....

My dad was a Streamline cabbie post WW2 until 80s. IIRC the garage was at one time only for taxis where the mechanic was "Uncle Bernard". My dad had a few years as office manager and I sometimes used to "help" him out (probably when my mum had had enough of me!).

Happy days. RIP Dad
