Saddened to hear this.

He'd recently spent some time in a care home where one of my my friend's mother lives. She's in her mid 90s and said the little concert he did last year for residents was 'interesting'. I received a signed book of his poetry via her a few months ago and have got a thank you card for him on my table that was ready for me to pass onto him via my friend next time we met up.

One of the very, very few artists that I've got into and then on a deep dive of their back catalogue found some stuff that was a bit too weird for my tastes.

RIP.

Bath, Somerset.
First heard 'The Modern Dance' in the late 80s when a barman in a pub put it on when he saw I was wearing a "Throwing Muses" T Shirt.
Great '90s band - seeing them in Bristol next month.

I didn't know he'd lived in Hove - an early fave of mine. Being a Jarry fan, I was first attracted by the name.

Last time I saw him as a solo act, he walked off the stage about 10 minutes in because people were gobbing at him. That was it: gig over

Was that above a pub in Queens Road?

Very sad , loved "crocus" and all his other incarnations since 1978,
The Modern Dance was groundbreaking and has made many Top 50 albums of all time charts ,
check out 30 seconds over Tokyo , and "Chinese Radiation" videos if you havn;t already
Top guy , Really innovative with both music and instruments used original uncompromising individual
Had kidney problems and confined to a wheelchair for many years , but he carried on performing, touring and blogging til the end
Thoughts are with "Jack Jones ", his friends and family
Thanks big man
RIP Dave

A musical original for sure. Rocket from the Tombs were the legendary 70s Cleveland band (unrecorded at the time) that included David Thomas and future members of Dead Boys. RFTT reformed in the 2000s, and actually made records! This is a punchy version of Sonic Reducer, which is most well known as a Dead Boys recording, and was written by Thomas and Cheetah Chrome.

So long David Thomas.
