I feel for the very few veterans left, for whom the war didn't actually finish until August, when VJ day happened. Maybe it isn't remembered as much because of the total destruction of two cities to force Japan to surrender, and the utter shock of what just one bomb could do.

To be honest, 75 years should've been the last commemoration day, as 80 is meaningless really. My Mum was a teenager at the end of the war, and died over two years ago, aged 92.

Classic NSC. If Farage had suggested it then it would be crawling with people saying what a great idea it is and why wasn’t two tier honouring our veterans.

The publicans interviewed on BBC radio seemed pretty pleased.

i’d generally agree with that …if it hadn’t been allowed/commemorated then the government would have been criticised

Depends were you are, Berlin has a number of pubs that are always open….I’m not sure how you can extend their hours
