[Football] Relegation candidates next season

We may wish Palace to be appalling and potential relegation candidates next season / but absolutely no chance. Pains me to say it but they have an excellent manager, have dealt with two key players leaving last summer very well and will be comfortably mid-table next season and likely pushing top 8. Annoying - but they’re a very decent side.

If Man City were to be sent down this season, they would presumably purchase their way back in short order.

However the reprieve could give Ipswich/Leicester sufficient time to get their act together and draw someone else into the mire next season.

A case of unintended consequences or maybe happy coincidence depending upon who?

Ipswich would never make it another season. They did well to fly up Championship last season from League One.

The biggest risk to Palace could be how well they replace Freedman when he leaves for the Petrodollar. Get that appointment wrong and they could struggle. Possibly not at first but if the new guy can't attract the same level of player then it could come back to bite them if they don't replace the likes of Guehi and Eze when they move on.

Freedman as said is leaving ( again) and is thought to be going to the Middle East.

The scouting team is staying so maybe someone promoted from within…does it bother me ? Quite frankly No.

I think Forest will struggle with European footie thrown in , but if anyone to go down ,other than the 3 promoted, I'd guess Wolves or West Ham.

Best stadium on the country,
Till this season, up there, often in the Champions' league
The Australian is a mistake, sure, and no doubt he won't be there next season.
I'm not sure why Spurs are so Spursy, but all Levy does on the football side is appoint the manager and pay the bills
(with someone else's money - he's not the actual owner: ENIC Group (formerly English National Investment Company) is a British investment company. ENIC is owned by the family trust of Joe Lewis. ENIC's Bahamas-registered subsidiary, ENIC International Limited, currently holds 86.58% of the total issued share capital of English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. Club chairman Daniel Levy and his family own 29.88% of the share capital of ENIC International Limited, while a discretionary trust of Lewis's family owns 70.12%).

I am struggling to think of any CEO who might be classed as 'one of the worst when making footballing decisions'.
Whoever has been calling the tune at ManU seems to have turned the club from a title winning machine into a joke,
but even they have won cups.

I think you'd probably need to start trawling in the lower reaches of the Championship and league 1 if you are looking for CEOs who are genuinely bad. Anyone who can keep a club afloat, and certainly anyone who can keep a club safely in the EPL is doing a decent job almost by definition.

Maybe you think that big clubs like Spurs should be winning lots of trophies? ???
The more interesting question is how they became and remain a big club, perhaps.
I think Joe Lewis has no influence on Spurs as his control was passed into a family trust which he has not involvement in since 2022. Speculation is that his family want shot of it and if they sell then Levy will probably go to.

Don't forget the question was excluding the three promoted teams.
Out of interest (excluding the three promoted teams) what would be your three teams?

p.s. I wouldn't put any money on it, I always lose!
TBH Idont really know much about other teams, but my rule of thumb is wait until the transfer window has shut and look at the squads.

Although I got it so wrong this season, when palace lost away to Forest I was furious as I had them down as relegation candidates….so that shows my lack on knowledge 😂

The PL is a closed shop now, the financial rules (which I thought were a good thing) have made it almost impossible for a promoted club to spend enough to catch up with anyone who has been in the PL for a few years.

Bad luck, injuries, players leaving etc will probably make a mid table team into a team finishing 16th or 17th. Look at how poor Wolves have been this season but even they will probably finish at least 10 points above the relegation zone.

The problem for the promoted clubs now is that due to the 3 promoted being the 3 relegated 2 seasons in a row it means that the 17 other teams are now very 'established' EPL clubs. IMO it would need a team like Forest to get promoted and break PSR rules hoping that the points deduction doesn't send them down.

If a 'lesser' team gets drawn into it is more to do with a terrible manager decison rather than losing a player or two. I don't think Fab would leave this summer, the clubs that might need to worry about that though are B'muff, Palace & Fulham IMO. They could lose their managers THIS summer and if they get the replacement wrong then it can be the difference, as an example I think Hodgson would have taken this Palace team down; conversely Leicester might still be in with a chance if their board had either stuck with Cooper or not lost their minds recruiting RVN.

Loz, you've still dodged the question.
Which three teams would you nominate to be relegated EXCLUDING the teams coming up?
You said "Sorry that’s laughable" when I said my three would be West Ham, Wolves and Palace.

Who are your three teams? It's a tough question and most answers sound laughable.
Over to you @loz

Are the established 17 clubs really that safe that it’s unlikely for any of them to get relegated in the next few seasons (as some have suggested)? And is the outlook for promoted teams that bleak?

Looking back Leicester finished 8th in 2021/22 and were relegated the following season. Forest are only in their 3rd and are looking good for the top 4 (yes they got a FFP points deduction but maybe that’s the way to do it).
