I bow to your better judgement but just dont understand why this stinks. From an Albion view it is another chance for our young players to experience mens football. I dont know how serious opposition are taking it but additional gate receipts for them which i trust PL club do not get a share

Shock horror as Brighton U-21’s turn out not to be a massively popular money spinner. Who could have ever seen that coming?

Once you factor in staff costs and player appearance bonuses, Woking probably made a loss last night.

People have very short memories if they thought it was going to go any other way. How many people here would have been clamouring to watch us play Wimbledon reserves when we were in L1/L2?

But perhaps the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United U21s will prove to be greater attractions

Yes, that was a factor mentioned in Eastleigh's most cogent statement as to why they withdrew from the competition. Rather than abandoning the competition, perhaps the money paid to the partaking National League teams should be increased - and perhaps more effort could be made to attract attendances - tickets for schools, for example, or free tickets for accompanied youngsters. And maybe an earlier kick off - 6 o'clock perhaps, so no late night before a school day?
And one final question - just how much effort did the National League teams put into publicity and encouraging people to attend?

Aldershot not even announced prices yet ,probably waiting to see what crowds were like . We are charging £8 for FA Youth Cup . Oh just a point we were never going to pull out our chairman is on the National League board .

Although good for PL clubs My opinion changed a little after reading Eastleigh fc statement. Looking at some of gates you certainly cant have National league clubs losing money If PL wanted these maybe they should put money up for maketing the competition

I understand the negative feedback from the National League clubs and this competition should be financially beneficial for them. It seems to me to be an ideal opportunity for our younger players to play competitive games, but it won't be worth it if nobody shows up. I'm not sure how best to make it worthwhile, but I think the Premier League clubs should listen to the National League clubs to make the competition better.

It's sad how few people wanted to attend the games, that's the primary issue to solve I'd have thought. Maybe as a starting point, the PL clubs could guarantee a minimum income for each match?

I think the if Albion were a lower league club in this tournament the fans would vote with their feet. I don't as a shots fan even class it as a first team fixture . How many of these under 21 players will ever make it in their respective first teams ? If you aren't good enough by then ,you're not very likely to ever be . I think most fans will want this tournament to die.

Quite a few of us watched Brighton play at Woking in an FA cup replay which went to penalties in 2010. Att 4193

As for Wimbledon, we played them in pre season friendlies

Exactly. The "Eastleigh Manifesto" makes some good points - there is plenty of room for improvements in this competition - more money for the National League clubs; more prize money; more imaginative marketing and pricing. Probably other things too.

So let's make improvements!
