Have never really understood why the lido has not been more popular,with the right people behind it and a little development this place could be heaving. It really could become a great place to take the kids

someone will now bore me senseless by pointing out the obvious that every day is not like today and its not economically viable with other leisure options available zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz shut up you cnt (not you wookie the as yet to be revealed spokesman for the National Society for Stating the f***ing Obvious).
all reason aside days like this were made for the lido. however if you are too soft to go to an outdoor swimming pool unless its at least 32 degrees though then YOU ALONE are responsible for the lido's demise.

I really think it would be a shame to lose such a part of Brighton's heritage to the whims of property developers.

Have to admit I've always thought of Saltdean Lido as a mythical place, sort of East sussex mini-version of Atlantis. Come to think of it I feel much the same about Saltdean... Would have no idea if the Lido is currently open on a daily basis to local swimmers or if the pool was drained thirty years ago or how I'd get there by bus or whether you have to pay to get in or anything at all really. Mind you, I have absoulutely no idea where The Bristol Estate is either, even though many buses have it as their intended destination so I'm probably not qualified to post at all.
But the art-deco building photos I've seen look well worth preserving, and anybody who ever in the future buys a loft apartment in 'The Old Saltdean Lido Building' should be bundled into a car, tarred and feathered and run out of town. IMHO, like.

Property developers know there is a fortune to be made by building apartments there if the Ocean Hotel is anything to go by.

All I know is I have a son studying architecture in Pittsburgh, and he knows the Saltdean Lido. The art deco main building? is iconic.
That, the Pavilion, and a few Regency streets is all of Sussex that he knows. Plus the exteriors from Mirrormask.

The Saltdean Lido building itself should be preserved on its own merits (irrespective of the volume of use); the principal one being it is a classic example of Art Deco architecture.

thats what happened to butlins. thats a given as the horrible phrase goes. butlins flats couldnt sell as the developers hoped the council have taken a lot on for problem people and the place has gone to rats shit. but at least they preserved the classic art deco architecture i am sure all the smackheads and wife beaters sit back on a sunday afternoon marvelling at it.

Why can't it be turned into a water park? Does not have to be a scorching day to enjoy. Other alternatives prince recent or king Alfred, for me the lido is perfect for this. Kids need a decent swimming complex, why not saltdean lido ?

Its a fix, council site will not let me log on to vote.
Just spent 10 minutes to try and get password reset, has now locked me out. Council obviously are trying to deter people in voting, they dont make these things easy.
Sorry, would love to sign the petition, even though I dont use the lido, I think its fantastic and would love it to be more accesible to the public all year round rather than some posh flats, we have rather a lot of them already.

Personally I think they need to do something with it other than it being a Lido, whilst retaining most of the architecture. Would feel a bit hypocritical to sign the petition whem I would have no intention of using it as a lido.
It always struck me as odd to have a lido right on the coast when the sea is yards away. Apparently it was only economically viable for about 10 years after they built it. Has been loss making ever since.
