Now destined to lie empty and unused as running it as a lido is not sustainable (and hasn't been for 40 years) and the campaigners won't let it be used as anything else.

What would the developers have done if they had properly got their hands on the Lido. Would they have demolished the swimming pool?

I remember going down there as kid in 80's. Remember it was used to be freezing cold but it used to be absolutely packed out.

In my view (I live in Saltdean), it should be remodelled as an indoor pool. It could keep the look and everything but it could have a glass dome over it. Part of the dome should be removed or the front opened for hot days. It would then be used all year round. Then you can have your revamped, bar, restaurant, cinema or whatever.
What made me think about it was the new White Cliffs Cafe, such a nice experience with all the windows and being so warm inside, staring out at sea, even if the weather is cold and windy.
The lido needs to change to survive. This is a fact of life, it's outdated and it's use is not in modern life.

That's an excellent idea. They need something modern to be able to work with that building and something that is going to pay. I would have been a disaster if developers had got their hands on it and kind of sad.

Very true, I'm glad you like the idea. I would certainly use it, as would my family if it were shielded from the elements, and for the purists, the structure wouldn't have to change.

Growing up in Saltdean I'd agree fully it's good but if it's stays as it is it will fail needs to be brought upto date if it is to be a success.
