As someone who a few years moaned long and loud about our apparent decline towards Minor County status (good players leaving, shit ones joining and the Hundred turning the Test host counties into an elite group) I have to say this is not where I expected us to be in 2025. Very pleasantly surprised, well done to everybody who turned the ship around.

17yo Ollie Moore called up for the trip to Nottingham

Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) is proud to announce that one of its students, Ollie Moore, has achieved remarkable success in the cricketing world. Ollie, aged 17, has received a call-up to represent Sussex Cricket in the men's 1st squad.

Ollie joins only a small number of state school cricketers still in school to be selected for the Sussex men's 1st XI - following in the footsteps of Will Sheffield, another BACA student, who was the first ever to receive such a call-up in 2020.

Ollie will be joining the team for the County Championship game against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge from Friday to Monday: this prestigious venue is one of the great test grounds in the country, adding to the excitement of Ollie's rookie debut.

Ollie started playing cricket at the age of just three in his back garden and participated in his first competitive game at four years old with Pevensey Cricket Club. Almost 14 years later, and now a member of Hayward’s Heath Cricket Club, he continues to thrive on the competitive edge of cricket, enjoying both the teamwork and the social aspects of the sport. Ollie is also passionate about encouraging other young people to take up the game and helps with the junior cricket sessions at BACA.

What's happened to Dan Ibrahim? I'd have thought he was pretty close to like-for-like replacement for Lamb, although he's more a batter who bowls a bit, rather than Lamb, a bowler who bats a bit

I doubt it. He is a decent player and has been super unlucky with injuries. he will come good at some point.

Maybe they’ve lost faith in him?
He hasn’t fulfilled the early promise When he was the most highly-rated of the kids.
It happens. Sadly in Ibrahim’s case as he comes across as the sort to live and breathe cricket.

His performances outside of his breakthrough season have been pretty poor. He's still very young though.

Lenham or Foreman?

Foreman was sub at the last game - he had a pretty good winter, he's still very much around

I suspect that Lenham will join the ranks of those players who will only feature in one-day stuff - 2020 and the One Day Cup. Sussex seem to have had a lot of them over the past few years

@Don Tmatter , Ollie does a bit of both, and Will was released after a year or two. Still playing on the local club circuit I believe.

Kravelas won’t be pleased though. He might as well leave if he can’t get in with 2 front line seamers + Lamb out at once.

Having said that I don’t disagree with today’s selection. Clark and Haines are more than useful 4th/5th seam options. A very green looking pitch too.

It’s also an opportunity for Carter. Who deserves one.
