Starting a revolution from my bed
Big game for a variety of reasons, a notable one being it’s an opportunity for Fabian to prove some doubters wrong in regards to his tactics and team shape. I think there’s probably a fair amount of consensus on the belief that our out of possession shape is causing us issues, so it will be interesting to see how he addresses this. With Pedro out, it also presents Hürzeler with an opportunity to try something different, as I’m not convinced O’Riley has the physicality to play the #10 role in the way he’d like him to.

My guess would be that he’ll try and pack the midfield out a bit more, with Baleba and whoever’s in there with him told to stay closer to the back four, particularly guarding those runs into the channel of our centre back and full back. I think the high press will take a back seat and we’ll sit in a shape a bit more. Potter teams are generally built around trying to create overloads through combination play, so a solid three in midfield doing a lot of defensive work will hopefully stifle this.

From an attacking perspective it would likely mean Mitoma/Minteh will have to do a mixture of get getting close to Welbeck and running beyond him.

It might make for a dull game but there will surely be a lot of work in training this week on how to be more solid. Also wouldn’t be shocked if Steele gets a start. Bart’s not exactly been great recently and another experienced head could be helpful. Veltman is in training so I’d guess he’ll play a half or so.

Van Hecke’s availability may also impact the shape. If Baleba has to play centre half we lose a lot of ground coverage in midfield which we’d surely want reinforced with an extra body in there.

I’d guess something like:

Verbruggen/Steele

Veltman/Hinsh Dunk Van Hecke/Baleba Estupinan
Minteh Wieffer Baleba/Gomez O’Riley Mitoma
Welbeck

Get into them
Fack them up.

Or, failing that,

Attack, attack
Attack, attack, attack

Tactics: stop conceding that goal on the break that we always concede. Or at least if we have to concede it, maybe consider conceding it a bit later in the game

Sussex but not by the sea
To win this game we need to win the midfield, end of. We do have the players to do that if we set up right. Pedro being out might actually help as he drifts about a bit too much IMO. Mitoma and Minteh both need to have 7+/10 games.

They will look for set pieces, which for us is a bit of a worry.

We should have beaten them at their place, which was the worst match I've been to this season, it was DULL.

Sadly this has 0-0 written all over it.

Two managers prepared to let their teams endlessly recycle the ball around the opposition box. Two static forward lines. Two teams low on self belief, but with nothing realistically to play for.

99% chance it's going to be the dullest match any of us can remember. 1% chance of a random humdinger. 0% chance of anything in between

Sadly this has 0-0 written all over it.

I truly think our defence (for American spellers & swell fellers--defense) is too suspect to keep a clean sheet and it seems when the oppo starts scoring goals we can't seem to stop them at all. BHA 0 - 3, 4 or 5 WHU

Just far enough away from LDC
I would want a solid centre back pairing with two deep full backs. Both wingers have to be prepared to double up.

On that basis it would be;

Bart

Hinsh/veltman Dunk cashin/jpvh pervis

Minteh baleba ayari mitoma

Gruda/oreilly

Welbeck

That means adingra, Howell, tasker, march, gruda/oreilly, gomez, steele as most of the subs

Ball from keeper will need to go to midfield or forward and we need to avoid playing a high line.

I would be more than happy with a nil nil in the circumstances

If Cashin starts alongside Dunk, we will need at least Baleba sitting in front of the defence to protect them., and maybe a 4-1-4-1 formation.

It's got 0-0 written all over it.

Give the opposition their customary goal in the first minute or two, which at least leaves us then the best part of 90 mins to get back into the game!

We need to be rock solid defensively. I would look to have Weiffer and Baleba cproviding cover for our under- performing back line.

Verbruggen
Hinsh Dunk Cashin Estupinan
Baleba Weiffer
Minteh O'Riley Mitoma
Welbeck

If chasing the game after 60 minutes - March for Minteh - Adingra for Welbeck

Verbruggen
Hinsh Dunk Cashin Estupinan
Baleba Weiffer
March O'Riley Adingra
Mitoma

Throw on Gomez for Weiffer or Cashin or Dunk for the last 15 if we're still desperate
