We have planned a staycation in Somerset and North Devon (come on weather gods!) For the Easter holidays. I was just in the process of looking to list my ticket for it when I checked my spreadsheet (yeah you heard me) to.see where we'd be in the day of the match.

Staying overnight in Glastonbury.🤔🤔🤔🤔.

I guess what I'm looking for here apart from some support around that not actually being that bad a round trip to get back for... I'd also like a really concrete moral argument to be able to tell my wife and kids about why I'm disappearing with the car for a day at midpoint of our holiday?

Any thoughts or useful tactics you've used in the past?

I always find honesty is the best policy

So tell her that you've left something in the oven and that the timer has kicked off and you need to go home to wait for the cooking to finish (about 3 hours) before heading back
That's a good plan. If she starts calling my bluff I'll just feign a heart attack or something.

I cannot help as I have never attempted such a heinous plan.

It’s only Leicester. I would strongly advise staying on holiday with your family.

You could write to Paul Barber and ask him to change the date of the game?

Once, when I was young(er) and stupid(er) I drove back 216 miles, on a Wednesday afternoon of a family holiday in Tenby, for a ‘Sunday League’ football match, that had been shunted to midweek at the end of a season. I left around 2pm, got back just in time, won the game, had a couple of beers with my team, then crashed at my house - then set of at 5am, arriving back at the holiday house before the family were up for breakfast.

my wife did have extended family there though, so it was considered just about acceptable. 100% couldn’t have done it if it were just us.

The cup semi-final v Utd fell right in the middle of our holiday in Corfu. Luckily we were with her(Mrs Corner)’s brother and his wife and the weather was glorious so I didn’t have a problem escaping.
I‘m hoping I have another problem to solve on 17 May this year as she will deffo be in Corfu and I’m hoping I’ll be at an event in London😊

Just a personal view but Albion v Leicester isn't really worth upsetting your family for, not to mention the expense of a near 300-mile trip. But your decision.
Is the right answer.

(I'll be under the surgeon from April 22 and off my tits on morphine so flatly my dear, I don't Riverdance. )

Just stay on holiday and listen on the radio. It's not compulsory to go to the game. I certainly wouldn't be running back if I was away on a family trip.

So other week wife and I were in Preston for 2 nights prior to the City game. I then mentioned we played City on Saturday and we were in the area. Two tickets purchased cost me good hotel and dinner Friday night. My exact plan from day one.

Personally I’d miss the game but depending on the ages of your family you may have options. For example, I have a 17 year old daughter and therefore the primary way she remembers I exist is when she needs money for something, or someone to hold responsible for all the evils of men. If I was planning a 7 hour drive to watch a turgid 0-0 against a relegated side I’d maybe get on Groupon and book her and her mum a day at a spa or something just to make them both even less likely to notice my absence. This would be a treat for them, I’d keep myself busy, they don’t have to worry about me, they should just relax and keep off their phones…and no need to thank me, they’ve earned it.

Not only do you get to watch us not win, you can contribute with first hand experience to the threads here blaming the ref afterwards, and maybe even join the likes of John Terry in winning the Dad of the Year award?

Or just be really grumpy for the first half of the holiday so you’re doing them a favour when you go to the game?
