[Misc] The Official NSC Bird Spotting Thread.

Spent the afternoon at Pulborough Brooks today and clocked over 30 species. Highlights were Red Kite, Sedge and Reed Warbler and Avocet.

Nightingale and (I’m reasonably certain) Cetti’s Warbler were heard but frustratingly not seen. Lots of Whitethroat and some very visible Blackcap and Reed Bunting

A reminder that I should go there more often, it’s a fabulous place.

Beach fishing at Atherfield round the back of the IOW today. Caught bugger all, but watching the Peregrines patrolling the cliffs took the edge off it.

In Lagos (Portugal) over Easter and it was lovely seeing the storks nesting outside the town hall next to a busy roundabout.

I also heard, but didn't spot, firecrests out on the west coast and saw some azure-winged magpies.

Unfortunately, no hoopoes. You have to go to Eastbourne or Rustington for them.

Off to Portugal in a couple of weeks. Portimão has loads of storks nests across the town on high chimneys, and we see dozens of hoopoes on the golf courses usually……..something to take my mind off my inevitably shite play

Herefordshire way - been hearing skylarks for a couple of weeks and finally saw one. Really chuffed as they are normally hiding or high in the sky.

Talking of storks, 3 of the 4 eggs at the Knepp estate have hatched, with the chicks growing well.

Having a lovely morning drinking tea watching plenty of starlings ridding our lawn of leatherjackets ! Great to see the infestation being decimated by these birds filling their beaks and returning to their nesting sites to feed their young.

I was on my patch before daybreak to check on the Red-necked Nightjars that returned last week, found 3 of them. So many Nightingales this year, 17 singing this morning. Pleased to see Penduline Tits gathering aphids to feed the young and found 3 Golden Oriels males on territory.
