Has anyone else done this?

There I was burning into the box at football last night and ping/audible pop and down I went like peak era Murray looking for a pen…

Felt like I’d been shot… I actually blamed the bloke defending, thought he’d kicked me lol…

When I got up, it was interesting…. I went white as a sheet, thought it was my Achilles… it really hurt, I mean really hurt.

Grade 1-2, 4-6 weeks until a ‘recovery’ three -six months until football ⚽

Sigh, at 44 I think that’s me… it makes me realise how hard it must be for Solly et al to (you know) go for it, doubt I’ll ever try to sprint that fast ever again 😂

The wife’s delighted.

Yes, it bloody hurts.

Took me 4-6 weeks and that’s when I was fit/fitter…..

Done ACLs in both knees and ligament damage to both ankles playing our glorious game, never torn a calf but unlikely to do so now.

A grade 2, when sprinting across a road during a very cold spell (making a tear more likely). Make sure you get a physio working on it asap and do the exercises they set. Otherwise the muscle will permanently shorten and be inhibited by scar tissue. @dazzer6666 will know more.
Thanks for the advice… I’ve got my exercises already… I think I’ve been lucky as I can already weight bear (just) and drive… the thought of walking at a moderate pace fills me with dread…

Yep… it was the sound, like I’d been kicked … which I thought I had… by a very pointy boot 🥾 😂

What was odd, this was about 40 mins into a pretty intense session… not at the start… I’d accelerated past two or three challenges was just about to pull the trigger and BANG.

Did mine when I was 41, playing squash. Thought my opponent had hit me with his racquet from behind!

Made a full recovery, back playing within a few months, and still playing 16 years later.

You'll be fine!

Not calf but tore a groin muscle in January. Playing football at the age of 48. Still out now. Its properly thick to be playing football into your 40s. It's just addictive!

I snapped my Achilles as well and had it surgically repaired.

Pain wise the calf was worse

Yep, had a few (well, several…..until I worked out why it was happening and not had one since). Bizarre feeling when it happens, literally like someone has whacked you on the back of the leg with a metal bar or similar and hurts like a b*stard.

Keep it elevated as much as possible, don’t overstretch it for several days at least (very easy to make it worse) and ideally see a physio as suggested otherwise recurrence is quite likely. Exercises that are best depend on which muscle has pinged (it’s usually the gastrocnemius but could be the soleus - again the physio will know). Ibuprofen for the pain and heat to promote blood flow.

In a pile of football shirts
Ripped my Plantaris muscle (inside the calf) a few years ago, had me laid up for five weeks with my leg in the air before they drained the escaped blood from my leg, then took another 2 months or so before I could walk without pain or a limp.

Tore my calf warming up to play flay football a few years ago. I heard the ’pop’ and then the pain - I honestly
thought someone with an air rifle had shot me in the leg.

Make sure you see a physio once it has settled down and don’t try to push it too soon, even if it feels better it needs proper rest.

The amount of NSC injuries this season is absolutely ridiculous.

Done mine playing cricket, running in from the boundary, thought I had been stung.

I still feel my calf is tight 10 years later and if I get a cramp it’s always in that calf ?

Almost certainly scar tissue hence the post by @Weststander earlier suggesting physio during the healing - important to get the muscle fibres realigned otherwise I was told they heal ’messy’ rather than nicely aligned, and will always feel tight afterwards. Removing the scar tissue by deep tissue massage is, however, more painful - fleetingly - than the original injury

Sports massage / deep tissue massage is one of the most painful things to go through. The lightest touch in the right place can put you on the ceiling
