I appreciate this is likely all over the Trump thread, but I feel the subject is big enough to merit its own thread.

Aren’t the GOP the ones who are meant to be all about tight security and order? I wonder what Republicans (non-MAGA) make of this hugely embarrassing f*** up?

Bath, Somerset.
Sadly, this will do nothing to make his zombie-like cult-followers change their views.

They'll just dismiss this as Fake News or infiltration by the 'radical Left', and continue worshipping the increasingly incoherent bloated Orange Degenerate.

Trump has a history of being involved in data leaks and security risks (walking off with official secret documents after he lost the 2020 election). It was one of the reasons he was indicted last year and also part of the Muller investigation into his alleged collusion with Russia in 2016 and after recorded meetings with Russian officials in the WH came to light.

As you say, all over the Trump thread.

I agree, MAGA supporters will do this. But I tried to cut this off at the pass by differentiating between Republican stalwarts who would vote for any Republican over a Democrat, and may not actually be a Trump/MAGA supporter directly. There are a sizeable chunk of Republicans who feel this way.

I am more interested in what non-MAGA Republicans feel about this. It surely goes against everything they want their party to be seen to be.

Absolutely, but I know loads of people have that thread on ignore, and this is a bigger standalone story than Trump’s latest ghastliness.
How do you know “loads of people” have the thread on ignore ?

And if they have it on ignore, presumably because they are sick of seeing stuff about Trump on the top of the boards all the time. I get a little fed up with it myself but surely another Trump thread is the last thing people need! 😂

The latest ‘security leak” is a long line of many and will be a storm in a tea cup that is one more reason for Trump administration’s incompetence - an American journalist was contacted in on a private whatsapp which is unexcusable but it’s not Snowden or Wiki Leaks

Now this is data leaking 😉

On NSC for over two decades...
I would imagine that traditional Republicans are privately livid. There are two levels of f-up here, it all happened on a public service, and a journalist was included in the group.

Shockingly lax.

They’ve already spun it as an example of the upper echelons of the Rep party working in professional close unison on a serious matter (ignoring emoji use presumably). Criticising the publication that the journalist worked for, standard Trump playbook. Amusing that Vance seemed to go against the grain a touch though..so of course they’ve been backpedaling on that as well.

It’s unbelievable that this could happen.

With that mob, I'd say it was totally believable. As is the fallout and the people in charge choosing to attack (just verbally, at the moment...) the journalist who was added, instead of holding their hands up and saying "Yeah, we facked up."

Ok fair enough. 🙂

We all know he has a cavalier attitude to National Security. We have known that since 2016. Anyone that thinks it OK to store official secrets papers in his bathroom accessible by any of his Russian Oligarch friends is not going to be very security savvy about anything.

Trump’s overall gutting of the Federal Government in Washington probably presents more of a risk that cc an American journalist being cc’d into a defence conversation. That leak is more about what could have happened rather than any damage actually caused meanwhile …

Democrats in the House made a statement recently on the risks Trump poses to National Security and it’s pretty damning (and long but worth a read)

As far as I’m aware this isn’t a Trump issue. It’s an international politics issue, was marked as News, and as such instead of coming on here and posting a paragraph, what you should’ve done was pop the thread on ignore like I do for threads which don’t interest me 👍🏻

Can anyone advise how I 'un-ignore' a thread?
I think you go to your list of ignored threads and choose to remove it from ignore?

Edit: Yep – just checked. Click the icon on the right hand side and it disappears from the list.
