Is it the Luke kiddy?

I've not watched any of his stuff, but I've become aware of some brouhaha around him a little while back, for largely the same reason.

I've not been in the position of having anyone close to me doing this, but I think I understand what you're saying. I think I'd feel quite self-conscious if someone was vlogging near to me, knowing I was likely to be in shot a lot and then on YouTube for ever more.
Don’t really mind them although like you would feel uncomfortable if next to me. Wouldn’t be happy if I was in the pub when he did the Newcastle game though.

Still in Brighton
That's the one. You go to a game with your mates, it's time off from "real" life and for a lot of us it's an important opportunity to feel that raw, spontaneous emotion and joy and despair and the only place we really do let that out - one of the complaints against VAR after all is that it kills that moment a bit.

Knowing every instinctive response and reaction you have to something stands a chance of getting on YouTube forever can make you self-aware to the point you're as focused on where the camera is pointing as you are on the game. Without wanting to get pseudo-philosophical about it there's plenty about the social and mental benefits for fans of the fact we're kind of anonymous in the crowd and it's a mass-experience where we can lose ourselves and not be self-conscious in that self-expression. For me, it's important that's not denied people just so someone can get likes on YouTube.

Indeed, many people don't like showing their O Face when a goal goes in....

can’t stand the vlogging trend. Few weeks back at a Valencia game a couple of British kids (in their early 20’s) decided to turn up in the ‘ultras’ section behind the goal. About five mins they were towed out by the police having been kicked round the terrace for a good couple of minutes. I go to quite a few Valencia games and they just don’t seem to tolerate anything like that. Of course may well have been because they were English and one had an Arsenal shirt on 🤷‍♂️

was stuck near one at our last Wembley semi final, bit annoying to be honest, he spend more time mucking about filming than he did watching the game

West is BEST
At one of our aways this season I was in close proximity to a vlogger. At Old Trafford last season I was very near Ronald and barely noticed him filming, but this other one was a detriment to the experience of the game. Constant commentary while he filmed himself (and occasionally the game) that was annoying and distracting, body language that seemed almost hostile in avoiding interaction with other fans except during half time (because that'd interrupt the commentary), and the only person not joining in the songs. Anyway, last night I thought I'd try and find the footage on YouTube, and I did - I'm in it numerous times singing / celebrating / despairing with others which I find a bit irritating to have had no choice in, and In the footage - which I'm not going to post - he even directly draws attention to the reaction of other fans, not in a negative way, but still in a "look at that reaction" way and even in the moment I noticed people's awareness of him affecting them.

It's different from club footage or MoTD which we know we may feature in and have to be OK with, because this is 10-15 minutes that being a fan-eye view essentially follows the emotional journey of the group of fans who are around the individual for the entire match. Something about that feels more exposing and open to public ridicule from others (and while I have no reason to be particularly embarrassed I also don't think I'd love my Brighton-curious colleagues and clients stumbling across it).

This is, I realise, part rant, part self-conscious annoyance, but just wondered what other people's take and view is? It's so open and obvious it's taking place I'm guessing it's permitted but a single individual influenced the experience and behaviour of maybe 6 fans around him and that doesn't seem totally fair? Do we have a right to ask and expect them to stop?
I would tell him in no uncertain terms to stop it or he’ll have an iPhone where his face used to be.

I used to do these vlogs and I don't think I ever had anyone complain to me about it. Totally understand people's points here, especially the interference part. I wouldn't want a loud commentator around me, which I don't think I was although I was a high pitched 13 year old back when I did it😂. Generally my vlogs focussed on me and my reactions were always natural, used to get a lot of positive feedback from viewers.

Thinking about this more earlier I wonder how much of it is part of the steady erosion of social norms. Mini-Exile (17 years old) no longer wants to go to the cinema because she can’t remember the last time a film wasn’t ruined by people on their phones - not just younger people but older too. Makes me think maybe it needs us grumpy older people to make a stand to prevent everything enjoyable in life being degraded by people with no concept of respect for others. But then that feels like a slippery slope to reading the Daily Mail, voting Tory, and supporting Chelsea.

Why can't you just watch the f***ing game? I don't even get my phone out in the game let alone take a photo.

Almost as bad as having to watch your friends/family show you their holiday snaps. Oh this was sooooo funny Blah with a funny pair of glasses on. You needed to be there. I wasn't and it's f***ing boring.

I did watch the f***ing game. I did it because I thought it was a good concept for YouTube. There weren't many vloggers for us back then, and the most popular one got banned while I did it. If people weren't interested they wouldn't watch it. I don't regret doing it tbh but wouldn't go back to it.

Can you watch the game properly while pointing a camera/phone either at you or the pitch. I see all the time when there's a penalty, just don't get it or the need for it, but there you go, hohum.

You can’t go to the cinema now without people (usually older people from my experience) talking and commentating the whole way through.

Re the vlogging, I don’t get it myself. Why do you go to football to not actually watch the football? It’s baffling behaviour.

Personally I’ve never had someone vlogging around me, but if they were I’d not feel that comfortable with it I imagine, so I’d probably pleasantly ask them to stop, or gently take their phone off them until the end of the game.

This.

I would probably take a few photos and make a one minute clip or something, given it would be my first visit. But other than that... agree with everything.

I remember ~15 years ago when you could say "I hate everyone with smartphones" without hating mankind... good days.

If I point the camera at my face only, which is what I usually did. It wasn't all about the camera or views when I did it. Filming the game itself is a pain concentration wise hence I gave up on it. Haven't vlogged for over 5 years now. Probably to the relief of my neighbours in WSU looking at this thread😂.

Watched a few from other teams and the ones from Saints and Bournemouth were very good. The same vibe but calm analysis. No gurning or rapping. Don't have a particular problem with people doing it around me if it is like that. But don't want to be part of the squealing and "bantz". There really is a gap in the market for a decent Albion Vlogger. Ronald is great at what he does but we aren't really the target audience. And it has to be a great result to make me try and watch Luke as his persona has just gone full influencer cringe.
Agreed on the bournemouth and Saints ones. They're good. A bit closer to a 'football focus' type thing reasonable people who clearly understand football a it. Instead of shrieking hysterical twats or someone in a pretending to be the most angry and outraged competition.

There's an older chap who does a man city one that's alright as well.

Can’t stand them. They’re pretty much in the same bracket as shirt beggars.
I had a friend who brought one of those signs, asking for the shirt of a pretty random youth player making his first appearance on the first team bench. That was a little fun tbh. Other than that, its a bit shit.

Away with the fairies
I had a similar but definitely different experience on the tube yesterday.

Reasonably busy tube train and two 20 something year old women get on and are filming each other.

One is dressed as a slutty school girl and the other has a skirt that didn’t really cover her arse (certainly not from a sitting down position) and it didn’t appear that she had underwear on.

The slutty school girl starts swinging from the handrails in a way that I’m sure gave the camera an upskirt shot (I was just behind so saved from that treat).

They got off at the same stop as me and I’m heard them discussing uploading the videos and making money from.

God knows what video I’m in the background of!

Soooooo...... didn't you ask where these videos could be found? (asking for a friend)
