Anyone got advice and/or experience to share?

I don't need anything fancy or sophisticated, just need to host a couple of pages and the ability for someone to download an application from my website.

I did have one 20 odd years ago (free with Virgin) and used MS FrontPage to edit/publish but I read that FP got pulled around 2003. I've heard someone mention Word Press? I'd like to choose a domain name and I won't need more than 1Gb of space.

Price is key, I've no need for bells and whistles.

I'm quite IT literate (still do a bit of coding) so will be looking to go DIY.

Any suggestions, recommendations, or even who/what to avoid maybe?

About 20 years ago when I had a similar need for a brief time, I used these guys:

My needs at the time sound similar to yours now, and they could do everything I needed.

I've used (and still do) these guys for the last 20 odd years.

Support is excellent and they are pretty cheap. I've also used GoDaddy in the past and really can't fault them either.

After vidahost/hostroute got swallowed up by go-daddy and turned toilet, research turned me to Hostinger, who answer emails personally and quickly.. Been all good.

If you need something very basic like you describe you can probably get it for free. Have a look here
