'Extend extra time until a goal is scored'

Folk were already losing an hour's sleep on Saturday, let alone arriving home at dawn.

And 3:30 p.m. where I live after starting at 12:15 p.m. Good golly, that's tough.

We got knocked out without actually losing.
That's not very satisfactory, is it. For over a century, the competition was about winning matches, not penalty shootouts.

A duel with pistols at dawn?

I've always liked the idea of penalties BEFORE the match starts. No.extra time. Everyone knows in advance who wins if time runs out on a draw. Imagine the utter chaos as the clock ticks down and the the team that lost tbe shoot out know they HAVE to go for broke.
Unless it involves Fulham who would break the phantom head injuries record

Multi-ball in extra time (add another every 3 or 5 minutes) until 30 mins had been played and if still level, then next goal wins

Keep playing until one team has a 2 goal lead.

I agree Forest have bumbled their way to the semi final winning penalty shoot outs whilst we have seen off Chelsea & Newcastle winning properly. At least one replay before it goes to pens seems fairer.

100 % this.

Fans get pre match entertainment, any of the 18? man squad can be involved.

As per above, one team (that lost the shoot-out) knows there is no draw to play for and HAS to attack else they're OUT! Also good for the spectators....

I think what we have now is the best option. Can't realistically have replays now unfortunately.

The change I'd really like to see is to scrap the League Cup - or make it for EFL Clubs only.

It would increase the importance of the FA Cup if there was only one Cup competition and relieve fixture congestion.
The efl cup change I want is change it to a British cup stick the teams from Scotland in as well imagine a Tuesday night away at Ross county

Still think what the NASL did when there was a draw was the best - player starts in centre circle and has 6 six seconds to attack the goal. Keeper can come out or stay - so much more skill and excitement, chips, long shots, dribbles etc

Just far enough away from LDC
In the event of a draw after 90 minutes, result to be decided through the medium of interpretive dance
Bloody typical that we sign the only interpretive dancer that doesn't have artistic intent, musicality and can't develop a motif

given the importance of these things, the current penalty shoot out massively favours the kicker, and it becomes a bit of a lottery. Its a very poor way of deciding the match. There must be a way of giving the keepers a bit more of a chance. Maybe having the kick taken from further back at the edge of the area rather than where it is, with maybe a defender and a second attacker- allowed to touch the ball once
I honestly cannot believe that after all these years, and all the absolutely conclusive evidence, that people still think penalties is a lottery. It is absolutely nothing of the kind.

There was an article in the Athletic a couple of weeks ago about Pedro's penalty taking, with Glenn Murray saying how he never practiced penalties 'because you can't recreate the pressure scenario'. While saying his record was about 7.5 out of 10 compared to Pedro's 9.5/10. I find it completely astonishing that he couldn't see the issue there.

Saying you can't recreate the pressure of a penalty so there is no point in practicing is like saying you can't recreate the pressure of an exam so there is no point in revising. It's absolutely laughable that people, let alone professional footballers, still think like this.

Providing they don't introduce that to Sunday League, I'll be lucky to be out of the centre circle after 6 seconds.

Agreed. A penalty shoot-out is NOT a lottery. If they blindfolded the kicker and spun them round three times before getting them to kick the ball, then you could say it's a lottery. As it is a penalty shoot-out is both a test of footballing skill and footballing intelligence. Still think it's the best way to settle a match - and I used to be a huge supporter of replays.

Yep. And the fans that suggest it is a bad way of deciding a game are usually the ones that have just lost by one.

I remember when England went out on pens to the Germans in the 1990 semi final our press getting all shitty about it and claiming it was an unfair way to decide a game, because it was 'a lottery'. And the Germans basically laughing at us saying 'We practice penalty shoot outs, you dumb fucks'.

My son came up with an idea to make them more fun on Saturday though- a random draw or 'spin the wheel' type thing on the big screen before each penalty, which selects the kicker at random. That would make it more fun, but definitely more of a lottery. I like it.

I thought 95% of us knew Forest would win on penalties anyway?

Every player on the pitch at FT takes a pen. Less chance that only one player misses and has to deal with the weight of that.
90 mins then extra time golden goal .. changing ends every 15 mins
