Has The Outfit had a mention? Excellent film with a great twist at the end.

Set in a Tailors shop in Chicago in 1956. The whole film takes place in the shop, would make a great play.

Disclaimer, fans of zip zap action films should avoid.

The BBC has released some first-look images from its upcoming crime drama, This City Is Ours, starring Sean Bean.

The eight-part series tells the story of Michael (James Nelson-Joyce), a man who for all of his adult life has been involved in organised crime, working for his friend and the gang leader Ronnie (Bean). When Ronnie begins to hint at retirement, Michael too begins to imagine another life. Because, for the first time in his life, Michael is in love. For the first time in his life, he sees beyond the day-to-day, he sees a future: something to win and something to lose – Diana (Hannah Onslow).
This City is Ours is the story of Michael and Diana’s love affair, set against the disintegration of Michael’s crime gang. For years, together with Ronnie, Michael has successfully been bringing cocaine into the City and beyond, directly from Colombia; but when a shipment goes missing, he knows their Kingdom is under attack.

The series also explores what happens when Ronnie’s son Jamie ( Jack McMullen) decides he wants to inherit their kingdom and that there is no longer a place for Michael at the table. Both Michael and Jamie have bold ideas to modernise the gang and they will battle for control of it. But Michael’s biggest battle will be to save the woman he loves and the child he has always wanted.

The cast also includes Julie Graham as Elaine, head of the Phelan family alongside her husband Ronnie.

Amandaland - Found it mildly irritating but funny to start with but grew to really engage with characters, superb cast and genuinely funny moments. Might go back and watch Motherland.
Motherland is well worth a watch, very funny

Sambre - Anatomy of Crime is quite brilliant

Catching up. Now watching Sambre - Anatomy of a Crime. It’s compelling, based on the true story of the French authorities failure to join the dots allowing a serial rapist to stay at large for decades.

Excellent TV.

Excellent TV.
Totally incredible the arrogance of Gendarmes getting everything about the case so wrong when the evidence literally stared them in the face after the first crime

In an era of DNA matching!

I explained the background to the drama to my very (understandably) pro matriarchy daughter, she commented that the police are awful. I said it was far worse back then (80’s and 90’s). For various reasons, they’re far better at finding the perpetrators of major crimes now.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but Once upon a time in Northern Ireland, is excellent. The Troubles from the perspective of ordinary people. I’ve only watched the first one, but it is very good.

I've watched the first 3 and it is indeed good. Well worth a watch

I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I've watched and enjoyed all 4 episodes of Miss Austen over the last 2 nights. I've never read a Jane Austen book and generally swerve period dramas, but it's got Keeley Hawes  starring as Jane Austen's sister, Cassandra. There are some good portrayals of what I imagine to be the type of characters in Austen J's books and it was strangely affecting.

If you spot someone in the away end on March 8th wearing a top hat and frock coat, that'll be me.

Miss Austin was great.

It is brilliant.. It's quite old now though - a couple of years or so. It was put out on BBC4 I think.

I downloaded it on iPlayer when I was back in England last summer and have just got round to watching it. Still available to stream for anyone interested

The BBC has announced a new crime family drama (another one!), Mint.

Created, written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Charlotte Regan, the eight-part television series is a darkly comic and unconventional drama about a crime family’s inner life, told through Regan’s unique and distinctive voice. It explores the question of what love might feel like when everyone outside of your family is terrified of you.

At the centre of Mint is Shannon (Emma Laird) the naïve and fiercely romantic daughter of the area’s dominant crime family. Shannon is desperately searching for love in the shadow of her gangster father, Dylan (Sam Riley), devoted mum Cat (Laura Fraser), older brother Luke (Lewis Gribben) and the indomitable family matriarch, grandma Ollie (Lindsay Duncan).

Having grown up protected within the surreal, yet violent confines of the ‘family business’, things are set to change once Arran – played by acting newcomer Ben Coyle-Larner – arrives on the scene.

The BBC says it’s a, “story about soaring romance and crushing heartbreak, love, infatuation, darkness and tragedy, [with] Shannon trying to find herself whilst dealing with the plain weirdness of living alongside the lawless world of the criminal elite, and pursuing her own version of power.”
