The bookies aren't very good at this sort of thing. They still have England around Evens regardless of the fact there is absolutely no chance of us getting the finals.

Spain & Portugal at 9/1? Wow! (Paddy Power)

Considering you only need 12 votes for an outright win on the first vote (assuming the suspended officials don't count) and Spain has 7 in the bag already!

I'd take it!

Why have England got no chance? And when do we find out?

December 2nd is the day.

England's chances have been ruined by the press here and the undercover investigations of FIFA officials. FIFA, like most of these bodies, doesn't take too kindly to that kind of scrutiny.
Technically, as the FIFA report this month will show, we have the best bid. BUt it's all about politics as doubtless you know. Football won't be comming home. It's sad, and I feel for the bidding team, but I always thought our media would be the biggest obsticle. They nearly lost us the Olympics, but thankfully there was time to repair that.

Well, not so much the media's fault as FIFA's fault for being so comically corrupt and then being upset because a newspaper (which is totally unconnected to the bid) decides to tell people about this.

I think the impact of the media is overstated.

So where are these 7 spain votes coming from then?

Latin America (they would always have that vote) Asian quarter as well. There are rumours of a tie up with Qatar 2022-and strangely the Spanish wont comment......(as its against the rules-like the English tie up with the U.S.A)

It all politics..............

It's not just the media though. The bid has been riddled with issues and incompetence since day 1. The bid team has been reformed about 3 times due to untimely resignations and various issues. The FA has not appeared at various events when they should have (there was one in London only about 8 months ago with they overlooked.)

There was the naivety regarding 'handbag-gate' and generally the bid team do not appear to be politically savvy. I think it's the latter which is the most damaging. The FA screwed up last time round as they did not understand the politics of a FIFA bid. Sadly they do not seem to have learnt a thing.

Spain/Portugal won't get it.

I really think the Russian Bid is a step too far, even for Blatter and FIFA.

I still believe it's coming home.

They nearly lost us the Olympics, but thankfully there was time to repair that.

If the media lose us the bid for showing the corruption then that isn't a bad thing. As far as I'm concerned I'd be happy if we never hosted the World Cup again if it meant the British press exposing Blatter and his cronies as the corrupt criminals they are and bringing them down.

Russia have already bought the 2018 World Cup. You can bet on that.

Done. Deal.

I thought they weren't too keen on shared bids anymore?

Not Luton! Thank God
The costs of each bid are quite different.

Russia thinks it will have to spend £6 billion, that will inevtiably go up

England thinks it will make a profit of £161 million.

In these austerity times, it sounds like a no-brainer to me.
