Seen far worse!
He let the game flow.
Unfortunately neither side took advantage.
His silly-arse Blakey (on the buses) nit pickery over where a ball was placed for a corner was embarrassing, but he was OK.

A very drunk 20 something (could barely speak) on the way out was moaning that 'we' let a 'kid' (Hinch) take a penalty.
Fab, Barbs and Bloom OUT!

Wonder if those saying he was alright were there? Different perspectives but in the ground seemed to play with a no man’s land north midlands but not north shirt on?
Often at the game, like today in a big cup game, emotions are running high and frankly football fans, especially in large groups supporting the same team, aren’t known for their reasoned and impartial thinking. It just takes the perception of one or two minor decisions going against the team for the boos and grumbles to start, and they spread through the stand.

The referee had absolutely no bearing on the result, wasn’t great and certainly made poor decisions each way. Got the main one right after referring to VAR (the penalty).

Absolutely no blame on the referee for our loss tonight.

Ha ha! Maybe you’re biased too? As I said earlier, he was irritating and far too Mr Important but he annoyed both sets of fans.

Added- yes I was there.
Luckily it seemed 95% of our fans in the stadium thought he was absolutely appallingly one sided - hence the ironic cheers. The Lino east side first half was also atrocious at letting offsides play on. It’s all opinions but wasn’t a joke - Banks was atrocious tonight against us.

Why was Anderson not booked for simulation for the non-penalty?
Then Anderson stops an impending attack in the second half, still no card issued.
Anderson was soft as shite, slightest touch and he was going down. Totally conman.
Pretty sure the rules around the use of VAR means that it shouldn't be used to give out yellows, only reds or no card and so even if it was an offense worthy of a yellow, they shouldn't award one based upon the replay they viewed in the monitor

I didn’t say he affected the result - he possibly did but it was an even game. My opinion is he gave them every soft decision and bought it all but gave us next to nothing. The fact he gave a pen for that just shows where his head was.

The VAR announcement was pointless as well as I had no idea what he said.
I didn't even realise that there was an in stadium announcement made at any point by the ref?
I certainly never heard it and only realised that it happened when i just watched a video of the penalty being overturned and they included the ref explaining the decision in their clip

I think we were given an equal amount of what our fans would consider “soft decisions” if they were given against us by the end of the game.

It was a physical game where both teams did their share of shithousery. I counted many times our players went down “injured” then sprang to life when they didn’t get the freekick (Estupinan, Pedro twice, Gomez) and several times they did too (Anderson twice, Awoniyi).

I don’t think the ref was great but one of the worst? Not in the same solar system as something like Tottenham away with Stuart Attwell and Michael Salisbury.

Doesn’t have to be in the same solar system to have been piss poor though - didn’t think he affected the outcome but thought he gave them far more than us.

When all is said and done it was a limp nervous display with us only really threatening deep into ET.
Too many had disappointing games. Rutter ended on crutches wearing a protective boot and Webster looks like hammy. Not a good day.

Pretty good summary. The first half was particularly shocking. Too many just didn't turn up.

Too many on this thread accusing the OP (and others saying the refereeing performance wasn’t great) of looking to blame the ref for the result - that’s not what was said. IMHO (1) Bankes was poor - often said that the best refs aren’t noticeable but he was, and seemed to be missing some control of the game - influenced by supporters and players of both teams, and felt a bit unsure in his decision-making - and (2) we didn’t deserve to win the game - both can be true and they aren’t mutually exclusive statements.

I was in the ground. And what you're talking about is your perspective. And maybe the echo chamber near you. And the influence of the usual outrage that happens in grounds.

I'm regularly convinced the ref has had a shocker when I'm at the match, with my nervous system on high alert, and the reinforcement of people around me and no replays or reflection.

Only to watch it back and realise its not that bad.

Not only did I think he wasn't that bad I thought he let a lot of muscular challenges go which is unusual.

The odd thing about him was he would then be oddly finickety about small stuff.

You watched the whole 120 mins back?I wouldn’t but fair play. I won’t bother to do that as some of the blatant pushes etc were off camera.

We've had far worse.

But got more frustrated and angry by him falling for their dives and simulation than I have for a long time.

Think my frustration tank was fill to overflowing more by our performance.

Is that what it was? Seriously? Fair enough. A bit of in-stadium explanation wouldn't have gone amiss tho. Most folks around/including me were left puzzled and - has to be said - unimpressed
Why?

Ignorance isn't an excuse. Be doing it for years at evening games.
