can somebody who went to game give a report
First time watching Worthing, so excuse the lack of player familiarity…
Dorking started well with Worthing struggling to maintain possession. As the half went on, Worthing came more into the game. Cashman (?) got injured midway through the half and had to go off but Worthing strangely looked better after the substitution. The lad Spong put in a few good corners and a couple of minutes before halftime curled a wide free kick inside the first half. 1-0 at ht.

Very early into the second half the Worthing keeper made a mess of a routine save from a Prior header allowing someone else to score from close range. That sucked the atmosphere out of the ground. Worthing took off their two big forwards, who had both been quiet, but seemed to lose shape after that. I was surprised that they didn’t show more urgency on the second half. Dorking came closest to a winner when a shot was curled just wide after some dilly dallying from the Worthing centre back.

A game of few chances in a ground with only one exit. The guy in front if me shouted to Prior that he hoped he gets throat cancer, which was odd combination of dark thoughts and unusually specific abuse.

I was there and that's a pretty accurate description of the events.

Am I right in thinking (obviously the safety of the player is the most importance) that the potential damage to the pitch could be tens of thousands of pounds?
Throwing a flare onto a 3g pitch could result in serious damage to the pitch and the abandonment of the match .
At the EB V Worthing game last week a flare or smoke bomb was extinguished quickly by the EB staff who were clearly prepared for the possibility

Not really, it all seems a bit excessive, and doesn't tie in with what someone from WFC told me, the youth with the flare was quickly identified, ejected and taken into Police custody outside the ground.

It all seems a bit of non story and Dorking almost looking for a pat on the back, they knew who it was about 5 minutes after he launched the flare on to the pitch!

Might have our wires crossed here. To rephrase my question. “Can a flare, not dealt with instantly, cause burn damage to a 3G pitch that could potentially cost tens of thousands of pounds to repair?” (Regardless of which two teams are playing at the time)

Not as much as you'd think, or at least not a flare of this size.

When it happened there was much fannying about, the said flare was barely the size of a cigar, the Dorking keeper who had gloves on could have easily picked it up and removed it from the playing area, instead we had to wait for two pensioners in hi viz jackets to come three quarters of the way across the pitch with a bucket, to do it the Health and Safety way.
