Yeah, there's a lot more, but I don't think I've ever experienced the volume/frequency you describe and about 90% of what I watch is on YouTube.

The video creators do have controls on ads, so maybe the channel(s) you are watching have ramped things up to the max.

I finally bit the bullet, after many many years of contemplating it …. in paying for premium at £20 a month. I listen to youtube music playlists and their wonderful algorithm suggestions sometimes for hours a day, when working. It was worth it. Now no ads ever 😍 .

A silver lining is that you can legitimately pass on the ads free subscription to family even if they have their own YT accounts.

Yes, they definitely upped the ads ante, but all platforms and websites such as Instagram, Amazon TV, have too.

I'm vehemently against adblocking, for what are probably quite obvious reasons.

However, I'm not sure what you suggest would be much good for watching YouTube on the lounge TV, which is where I watch everything.

It’s possible I suppose, but I have found it the same with both smaller creators I watch and the juggernauts like WWE.

In a way your post is a bit worrying because I am now wondering why I have so many ads compared to you

I just find it an awful lot of money for no “added value” if you get me. I hate the feeling of paying to “remove” things like ads. I appreciate ads are necessary, but their frequency and length now is getting completely out of hand. I’d rather than a 2 minute unskippable ad in the middle, rather than constant - and I mean constant - 10-15 second ads every minute or two.

I just think £240 a year is a bit steep.

I'll be more observant tomorrow and see how frequent my ads are.

A lot of stuff I have on is on the background, so I'm not massively focused on it.

The one that really annoys me is when I pause something - generally because I'm making a tea or popping to the loo - YouTube always serves me an ad when I unpause, and often a 45/60 second effort too.

I think that's because you are actually purchasing the family plan, not an individual one which is a lot less, if you weren't aware?

YT literally fills half my daytimes in the week, countless 1000’s of times I must have waited for skip ad at that magical moment when you get the chance to swerve the rest. In the end, life’s too short. I just want to listen to my music loves.

But I saved lots more in ditching AppleTV, Disney+ and negotiating with VirginTV from the £116 they wanted per month to £68.

I don’t really watch YouTube but my kids do so I pay for the family plan because I know people like Andrew Tate advertise a lot and it is the adverts that lure children into watching crackpots, family plan and no adverts.

It is a shame their business model is force people to pay rather than offering such good services id want to pay.

I don't know if anyone else had this experience but about 3 days ago there were miraculously no ads on YouTube all day. No idea why. I was watching tons of YT that day as I'm looking to buy a new car and everything I watched was totally ad-free. On two different TVs. It was heavenly. Sadly, it returned to normal the next day.
