I use AdGuard on my Mac, it seems to do a great job with YouTube. Occasionally YouTube will stop working when Google rejigs things to block adblockers, but so far it's never been more than a day or so before the AdGuard people fix it.
On my Android TV, I use a third-party YouTube app called SmartTube. It doesn't load the ads either, and it has a lot of customisation options that standard YouTube doesn't. For example, you can make it skip the in-video sponsor messages, and it even has a setting to swap all those annoying algorithm-driven "confused face" thumbnail pics for something that doesn't make you want to punch the face in question.
