Why do fans need to be questioned? Things happen in life where football is just a pass time, and the last thing anyone thinks of, is informing the club. A friend of mine told me yesterday, she was questioned by the club as to why she hadn't attended several games. She gave birth to a baby, who was then very ill and readmitted to hospital.
Do you really think the main thing on her mind was to inform the club?

I can understand the club wants bums on seats, but surely a bit of humanity and leeway from the club wouldn't amiss.
If they don't ask, how do they distinguish between examples such as that, and the affluent stayaways who can't be arsed to go ?

Agree, if you've missed half the games they might want to enquire if you're alright. Be caring. This appears to be a warning shot. It's frankly none of their business. You've paid your money.

You'll need a doctors certificate soon.

Have to confess I chucked mine in when we got to the PL. I do go occasionally but my flame got put out by the corporateness ( spell check redid this to corporate mess) of our new life with the ”elite” of the game. Man Utd are a prime example - sacking loads of low paid people to fund a week’s wages for some “super flop”.
They can throw the word “community” around all they like but it is so far removed from the community feel I remember that spawned my love of the Albion. It’s progress as far as the playing side is concerned but the corporate nature is both necessary and irreversible. Sad, from my point of view, but new fans will have their own experiences that they will look back on - I hope with as much fondness.

If someone misses games constantly that's one thing but a few in a season is another.

The few times I have missed a game I've put it up for resale never sold. I'll also add if my son misses a game he sits in the middle of three. We may ask the person who buys it to move a seat so my daughter and I can sit together but this is against ground regulations as you're supposed to sit in your designated seat.

Where's the line drawn though ? Asking the question is fine imo - at least they're giving the seatholder a chance to reply.

Mine has never not sold - not once. Asking anyone to move a place or two is fine, it happens all the time.

PS: Over on this thread there's dozens of examples and testimonials from NSC users sharing how the club showed some humanity and leeway when contacting the club about ticketing and other issues.

By all means ask but the tone of the email I received was like a schoolteacher telling off a pupil.

In the Supporters Club newsletter, there was a case of a fan being questioned as to why they hadn’t attended an away game, after buying a ticket.
The fan had been, and his ticket was scanned, so the club’s records aren’t accurate, as @PILTDOWN MAN post also showed.

Do we really have affluent stayaways? I suspect they are rare.

Asking the question maybe. However they asked for him to respond before the Villa game. What if he hadn't?

I saw that thread but it wasn’t my experience nor those I know.

Who else are leaving their seats empty game after game (and causing the club to take action) ?

People who have listed their tickets on the exchange but not sold.

Illness and life circumstances can happen at any time. It’s not compulsory to attend something you’ve paid for.

Joel is a genuine superstar - great to see him getting recognition on a thread I missed.

The club themselves are very clear that they don't want to punish anyone for the wrong reasons and will always try to rectify the situation if they've got it wrong.

I've also heard from someone closely connected with the club of quite a bad mix up in communication around ticketing and that they felt quite hurt by the experience. It obviously, as even they admitted, wasn't the intention of the club to get it wrong but they did in this case. It could be easily fixed.

Whilst some have had bad experiences, and I'm always happy to criticise the club when they haven't met the high standards they set themselves, we are run with far more kindness than most clubs at this level and employ a lot of people who genuinely care about the club and their fans.

Formerly, yes. Our block used to have plenty of empty seats most games (the same seats), but since the crackdown they are now mostly full. The crackdown has had a positive effect.

No one is disputing that - all the club ask is you list your ticket FFS.

I won’t have a ticket after May. The last three letters in your post are unnecessary imo.

Agree.
Re-reading this interesting thread, excellent post from @Westdene Seagull post #46.
I realise other discussions have taken place, but it still doesn’t seem right to me, unless payment is defaulted on.
Personal circumstances change all the time and sometimes at the last minute.

Edit - Joel is brilliant…..as per @Beanstalk

Hey @DarrenFreemansPerm - did your friend settle things with the club ? Are they now attending again ? Was it ever resolved ?
