Gutting that from being in form and great position, we have lost our way a bit at the most crucial time of season. Injures haven't helped us and this was (possibly still could be), a great chance to get into Europe again. With faltering City and United and Spurs being completely out of it, this is our best chance. Next season will be tougher to get near challenging top 4 possibly even top 6/7 as United will be back along with Spurs after Big Ange gets kicked out!

The Cup defeat has knocked the stuffing out of us. That coupled with losing Rutter and Webster. The last two games we have lost our edge. Concentration levels have dropped. We have become loose and sloppy again. Overplaying around the box.
Mitoma for all his ability on the ball was woeful today in trying to set stuff up. Pass after pass given away. We cannot afford this wastefulness. Defenders caught out of position for both goals.
A bit of mental tiredness has set in. If they don't shrug it off it's gonna be a limp end to the season.

Not at all - I see it as we simply didn't 'win' them, nothing at all to do with the 'will to win'.

Hurzeler:
“We weren’t aggressive enough, the hunger wasn’t there. Why? We have to analyse.”

The Brighton manager had attempted to fire up his players beforehand by acknowledging that they “didn’t give the fans what they deserve” in the 3-1 home defeat to Palace in December. But he looked on in disbelief as they made an awful start that immediately handed the initiative to their opponents. His captain, Lewis Dunk, was guilty of playing a sloppy back pass to Bart Verbruggen that he had no option but to kick out of play, with Mateta firing just wide from the resulting throw-in.

The passes made in the final third were awful.

In the last 10 minutes, March was near constantly free and in space, and yet we either persisted with trying to shift the ball to the left flank or slowly realised March was available and passed to him too late.

Palace are a much better team than any of us are prepared to concede, but by god we made it easy for them.

And when they did finally pass to Solly the pass was under powered and easily intercepted half the time. So frustrating.

I saw a post a while ago showing each club's most frequent passes.
Ours was almost entirely to the left side of the pitch, so I guess we have been coached to do so.

But by god it was frustrating to watch, and Palace seemed to be completely aware of it too.

I'm a bit more confident. Last season Albion were in perpetual decline in the second half of the season. Only the relegated sides performed worse. This season has been a lot more balanced. My feeling is that the race for Europe may come down to the number of places afforded. The only match that looks worrying 'on paper' is Liverpool. But even then, they should have won the league by that point. In fact, all eight are winnable. In theory.
Based on previous Amex games this season I'm far more worried about the Leicester game

Like last season Crystal Palace will finish higher than us and have at least 1 trip to Wembley but it doesn’t matter because there ground is shit and we’ve got a cool fanzone
I don't think they will.

They have to play City next week, without Guehi
Followed by a mid week away trip to Newcastle (who will be looking to get back into UCL places)

Then 3 games in 8 days
Bournemouth (H)
Arsenal (A)
Villa (FA Cup semi)

5 games in 15 days against top opposition is going to stretch them.
If they get through that, and keep us in touching distance, then fair play to them.

Dunk was painful yesterday especially the last 10 minutes. I find him so frustrating the inability to set a move up quickly.

Our goal was the only time in the game we moved the ball quickly used the wide man and got an early cross in.

Quite an exciting game and I should have been more nervous than I was last 15 minutes.
Could not believe the slow passing backwards and side ways when we were down to 10 then 9.

TBH palace didn’t play that well but in truth didn’t need to.

I have read on this post about anti football palace play, ie defend solidly and break at pace, is that anti football ? Or is passing the ball 30 times in your own half just to lose it as soon as you cross the half way line ?

I was quite shocked at how slow Brighton move the ball they almost wait for the opposition to get back into position.

Very pleased with the double this season but don’t think we will get above you as we have some pretty hard games coming up.

Yep

I've been moaning about it for the past 4 seasons.

Seemingly more important that we get into our shape, than allowing the opposition to be disorganized.
Exactly the opposite of what most other Prem teams are looking to take advantage of.
A failing of Potter/De Zerbi/Huerzeler

Probably due to the limitations of our squad than anything else.
i.e. good enough to be coached into patterns of play, but not good enough to win a game on their own skill.
