Personally, it's good riddance - why have the enemy's assets at talks on Ukraine?
I think it’s dawned on him that Ukraine is a strong position whereas Putin’s position is very much overstated. He’s just realised that Ukraine are not going to surrender to his tactics and Putin can’t. Trump doesn’t like losers so is getting out of Dodge, which is somewhat ironic as he looks at one every time he uses a mirror.

Yep.
But as for Witkoff, I'm not sure anything dawns on him much.

Agreed. We’re so used to the Americans providing the leadership and strength that we’re still seeing current events through that lens.

The reality is that their recent bluster isn’t supported by genuine substance.

This is an excellent segment from Times Radio yesterday with Prof Scott Lucas which explores just that. Gives me a lot more confidence that Trump can’t just have his way.

He also offers fulsome praise for Zelenskyy, rightly so.

Thanks. It just feels like we need to reset our mental model of what US diplomacy can achieve. Myself included, I’m regularly having to remind myself that Trump and his team are buffoons and their current plan is going nowhere fast.

From recent weeks it's pretty apparent that European leaders are having as much trouble resetting as we are.
If Trump and his team had been 'elected' in some minor African state (no offence, I'm doing most countries an injustice) the whole of the western leadership, traditional US leadership included, would be laughing our heads off at the buffoonery and would not give that team the time of day.

Fxck off Trump:
So the only thing of benefit here to Ukraine is that the proposed agreement says they could join the EU. But that’s not in Trump’s power to offer or decide on. The agreement therefore offers nothing to Ukraine and everything to the aggressor
