I have 301 points now which I’ve been building up over the last few seasons now that my older 2 have season tickets it makes it easier to get to away games as the 3 of us are going rather than just me buggering off for the day each weekend.
I logged in on 3 devices and best queue position I got was 870. There were a couple of tickets popping up but going again before I could nab one. I then spent the next 35 mins just refreshing in the hope one would come up again and amazingly one showed up around 9:40 in E216. So I will be off on my own that weekend as the kids are the tier below.

Assume there are 5000 in the queue:
1. Before the first event, the chances of the two being 1058 (or any pre-specified number) is about one in 25 million. That’s 1/5000 times 1/5000.
2. Before the first event, or after it, the chances of the second being the same as the first (but not a specific number) are one in 5000, because the first event is irrelevant (any number will do) and the second is simply one in 5000 that the outcome will equal it. So it’s 1/5000.
You’ve explained the difference between two independent events, and conditional probability. This was not my point. My point was the chance of getting the same queue number is the same as getting any other specific queue number. This is all.

depends how you measure commitment clearly club do in monetary terms
Well its not monetary terms, I'm not a millionaire and neither are any of my mates who go regularly to near on every game (despite someone asking me if I was the other day) we just would rather spend my money on football, That in my opinion is commitment, I could spend all that money on saving for a property but I'd rather spend it on football, seems stupid, but that's the truth. Its about priority at the end of the day and that's the reality of it. My priority is football and commiting to that.

I feel a tad sorry for you as when i was your age Brighton were shit and i could go to most away games (many pay on the day) plenty of tickets and i could afford a property, the one thing i couldn’t afford was the inevitable divorce that followed, I had two kids by 28 aswell 😮

I did claim Popworld Newcastle that other week as my own to be fair.

Exactly right. I did many years (pre-family) of 35+ games a season, but nowadays I'm towards the other end of the scale - every home league and cup game, but just a handful of away games per season.

I could afford (in the monetary sense) to go to every single game if I wished, but nowadays my free time and frankly my energy are more finite than my funds.

If the 'me' of back then missed out on tickets to any game, to the me of today, he'd rightly be fuming. Not that I ever DID miss out back then, mind - because we were shit and hardly anyone bothered!

My ex-girlfriend broke up with me, because I said the only time I had free was the international break, so we all make stupid decisions based around this silly football club.

Hope you don’t do the lottery.
Comparing our ticketing system to something that perennially rips poor people off isn't the fantastic argument you think it is

I think there is something not right about this system, just been given position 1058 which is exactly the same position I got for Palace in T2 last week. The chances of that happening both times are obviously thousands to 1.
Be good to have a queuing system on NSC for all the superfans lining up to defend whatever the club serves us

Sorry, but that is absolute horseshit.

The points are allocated on attendance - on people giving their time and effort, over other leisure options - to travel the country supporting the team. The club get no income from people's attendance at Premier league AWAY games, so to suggest it is all about money is drivel.

I failed to get a ticket for Brentford, because enough other people have made a bigger commitment to following the team around the country over the last two seasons than I have. Disappointing, but completely fair.
Exactly. I saw his post and was going to reply but you've said it all.

I'm guessing you also get significantly cheaper (free?) rail travel also, and that makes a massive difference when match tickets are generally a relatively modest £30.

When I lived in Bristol and travelled to away games with @cunning fergus and @nail-Z, an Albion-supporting CrossCountry driver had been befriended, and he was able to get us tickets that allowed travel on the entire CrossCountry network for £10 a day. From Temple Meads via Birmingham New Street we could get to almost any midlands/Northern away game, even though sometimes we had to pay a small amount for a non-CrossCountry last leg.

As such, I went to a shitload more away games than I would if I had to find, say, £100 for travel each time.

That's not to play down the commitment of time you clearly devote to following the Albion, but cost of transport is a barrier for many.

Yes of course, but then I’ve been to 72 Brighton games this season (men’s, women’s and U21) I’d probably only restrict it to Men’s games if not, and probably wouldn’t get the train.
