Liverpool (especially under Klopp) push up to the half way line too, similar pitch positions to us under FH. Alisson is renowned for preventing goals when faced with an attacker and no defenders to help, as he showed against Bowen etc last week.
I don't think anyone is suggesting Bart is anywhere near Allison standard!

That’s my point… Alisson is one of the two keepers who I think would look good in this system. I’m not sure many of the other Prem keepers have the skillset.

But your eye test is fool proof and perfect?
None of its full proof or perfect, that’s the point.

Look, I’m not saying he’s perfect. In fact, I’ve acknowledged he’s not. I just think he’s been put in an incredibly difficult position, and I don’t think many keepers in the Prem would’ve covered themselves in glory playing in this side.

But he has potential and we’ve come this far, so we may as well persist.

I was carrying on the discussion on the system aspect to this. If, as stated, only Alisson and Ederson could still excel under FH’s system, it makes one wonder about the system itself.

Ahh, I misinterpreted your point too.

But yes, I agree. It’s a strange one though, as I looked at the data yesterday and Vicario is amongst the keepers with the least actions outside of the box… which is mental for a keeper playing in that Spurs side and that system.

I think Fab is learning as well, he certainly adjusted how high we played post Chelsea away, and of course we’ve had good runs during the season.

We didn’t turn up versus Forest at home, then struggled in the second half versus Villa, and IMO, have only marginally above that poor level since. Is it the system or the quality of players in it?

Given the Leicester game it’s the players, both in attack and defence. The fall off in the second half vs Villa and Palace also points to the players. We have been naive and shite in equal measure recently. Expecting more of the same tomorrow, season is done imo.

I think it can work, that incredible run after the 7-0. But we need defensive/DM reinforcements with pace.

Then look at something like PSXg-GA (Post-Shot Expected Goals minus Goals Allowed - Positive numbers suggest better luck or an above average ability to stop shots - PSxG is expected goals based on how likely the goalkeeper is to save the shot)

He’s absolutely rock bottom of every EPL keeper that’s played this season. More data here : https://fbref.com/en/comps/9/keepersadv/Premier-League-Stats

Well if you're going to do that you should sort by permission 90 where it's still not pretty but he isn't rock bottom.

If is doing a lot of heavy listing and the poster you're responding to thinks Tony made the wrong decision in the summer and is barking for not acting swiftly enough. Alisson still has it but, as with so many City players, Ederson has gone substantially downhill of late.
From my eyes, Alisson and Sels have been the best keepers this season by a long margin.

Maybe, just maybe, we had ten players out against Leicester and our results have been sh!te when we haven't had many options this season.

I remarked on nsc about Sels long before the 7-0, he’s outstanding yet wasn’t getting any publicity. Has that aura of almost unbeatable.

He turned into a surly dick by the end of his time here and he did have the occasional ricket in him but I remember far far more quality saves from him than Bart has managed this season

He was mostly quality under Potter

Sanchez and Verbruggen top the “cock up” charts from PL keepers this season don’t they?
No. Stats on posts 1246 and following show not the case. Sanchez does make errors, but he is also better at making worldies.

Slightly off topic and maybe one for the Fab out thread, but do you know what this system is? I don’t, it’s certainly not obvious.

I genuinely don’t think there is one, I don’t think Fab is a strict system coach so I think to use this as a defence for Bart is being kind. He’s just been poor this season, end of. He’s young and very promising though so I’m sure he will improve.

Possibly raises questions about our keeper coaching too though.
