£70m+ - it depends how badly they want him and if the player forces the move (which I feel is unlikely based on what we have seen of his personality, but you never know). One thing I am confident of is that we will receive the best possible price should they come forward.

If it were any other club sniffing around, i'd say £70m and the resulting loss of PSR wiggle room, would be enough to scare off a potential buyer.

Well the thing is with us, is buying clubs are fully aware that we have no financial need to sell, which puts us in a strong negotiating position. My logic arriving at £70m+ is based on the Chelsea Tax, but also the fact that we paid £40m for a Championship player (potentially with a sell-on percentage going to Leeds).

The gulf in standard between the two leagues, as we’ve consistently seen, is enormous. Therefore to prove himself in his first season shows he can step up a level quickly. Chelsea are a step above us, and not as large as between the Championship and the PL, so his value will be reflected in that.

Mid table PL to Champions League and top 4 - £70m

But as I say, any player is only worth what another team is willing to pay, so putting a value on a player is very tricky.

He has been here less than a year. If we want to continue in an endless 'transition' then sell him to Chelsea for £70m. If we want this season to actually matter when it comes to next season then do NOT sell him, unless it's for Caicedo level money. Same for Baleba.
We need to be seen as a stepping stone and willing to move players on for their benefit. However it has to be on our terms, which is NOT after less than 12 months of being here.
I'd be pretty depressed if the club were to sanction this.

It's probably worth noting that the Premier League haven't actually approved this transaction to be able to offset their losses. UEFA certainly haven't and are set to impose sanctions, which would probably preclude any 50m+ signings this summer.

As always, any sales of our best players are down to the player saying they want out.

So, you start this rumour - spread it liberally around social media, etc.

The click-bait transfer sites pick it up and run with it. Then TalkSport. Then the Daily Mail.

Then the BBC gossip page reports the Daily mail story.

Then people go all 'the BBC are reporting that JPVH is off to United'.

JPVH's agent starts to think there must be some fire where there's smoke so makes a call to sound out United. Jan Paul himself has seen the stories, and started daydreaming about which colour Lambourghini to buy with his signing on fee. United take the agent's call, and now in the knowledge the player might be keen, sound out the club about a potential fee.

The Albion play down the stories, but the player's head is turned now, and faced with an unhappy player moping about pre-season, they reluctantly allow talks to start.

Van Hecke is basically SOLD now.

Yes and only my opinion, I’m still mystified why we bought O’Riley if Buonanotte is in FH’s/clubs longer term plans, Rutter can play in more positions than FB but O’Riley I’m yet to see what he offers over FB or even Enciso for that matter
