Quite an exciting game and I should have been more nervous than I was last 15 minutes.
Could not believe the slow passing backwards and side ways when we were down to 10 then 9.

TBH palace didn’t play that well but in truth didn’t need to.

I have read on this post about anti football palace play, ie defend solidly and break at pace, is that anti football ? Or is passing the ball 30 times in your own half just to lose it as soon as you cross the half way line ?

I was quite shocked at how slow Brighton move the ball they almost wait for the opposition to get back into position.

Very pleased with the double this season but don’t think we will get above you as we have some pretty hard games coming up.
You're absolutely right. Our refusal to pass the ball quickly and progressively is the biggest problem we have. We made it easy for you.

We are such a poor progressive side when Dunk plays. He killed the game.
Be fair, he's trying to up his completed passes stats. He's fallen way behind JPVH on the side to side 5 yarders, barely hanging on to a Premier League top ten position! He was 2nd last season and in the number 1 spot the season before.

A fair assessment. We are also going back into our old habits of going on a break and then just slowing it all
down for zero net result.

Flippant comment I know but it is down to Dunk missing quite a bit of the season.

Was the performance really as bad as some are making out? We had more possession, xG, touches inside the box, shots and shots on target.

Yes, we could have played more direct, especially when they were down to 9 men, but the main difference between the teams was the goalkeepers. Bart saved 1 of 3 shots on target, Henderson saved 4 of 5 and was MOTM on the BBC website.

Totally agree Loz. We seem to have an abundance of wingers whom seem totally incapable of taking on any fullback and always seem to cut back and pass into midfield. Not sure if this is coached into them but if so what is the point of playing them

I agree , I don't see the anti-football bit either. Different style , agreed but (potentially) being better technical footballers doesn't necessarily win games. Excellent strike by Mateta and a bit of luck with the deflection but a nice direct way of playing. Sure it's not everyone's cup of tea but it won the game. People might pick up on some 'injuries' but that's not unusual in the modern game.

In short I’d rather watch us playing like Palace recently, who have defended brilliantly and been clinical on the break, rather than the absolute dross up front and in defence that we have been subjected to in the last three games

It hurts to say it but Fab has been owned by the opposition manager in all three games this week.

I am genuinely concerned that abject Leicester may put the final nail in the coffin of our season. I have seen nothing to suggest we’ll roll them over.

Fingers crossed that the players are up for the next few games and the manager gets his tactics right. It’s not over until it’s over.

Why would it be the 'final nail', with six more matches to play and eighteen points still up for grabs, post-Leicester?

Guess we'll know earlydoors. Do that peurile rolling the ball under the foot thing on the goal line and the centre line and a) Leicester defence will know they're in for an easy day at the office and b) we'll get hit on the break

Just how I see it, I am often wrong
Fair enough, but the 'final nail' for me is when it's impossible to achieve a place in Europe. That point will come way after the Leicester game.
Of course, it may not come at all, as we currently have 47 points with 21 more to play for. :)

Hurzeler:
“We weren’t aggressive enough, the hunger wasn’t there. Why? We have to analyse.”

The Brighton manager had attempted to fire up his players beforehand by acknowledging that they “didn’t give the fans what they deserve” in the 3-1 home defeat to Palace in December. But he looked on in disbelief as they made an awful start that immediately handed the initiative to their opponents. His captain, Lewis Dunk, was guilty of playing a sloppy back pass to Bart Verbruggen that he had no option but to kick out of play, with Mateta firing just wide from the resulting throw-in.
If you analyse that critical first few minutes, every time we had the ball, we attempted stupid long passes and gave the ball away time after time to Palace. The result was that Palace kept creating passing moves that resulted in two shots for Mateta in the opening two minutes and he found the net after his first range finder. This is an object lesson how a team should NOT play a rivalry game - we should have been trying to take the sting out it, quieten the home crowd and protect our goal.

This is not a “hunger” issue, it’s a coaching issue. If RDZ or even Potter on the sidelines, he would have stopped our players playing these wasteful crappy Hollywood balls. But it just happens too often under Fab, our passing levels, ability to game manage and assert control over play have gone backwards. Yes we have won games this season because we have a deeper squad with more firepower up front than last season. But if we have injury issues approaching last year’s, what do people think will happen?

Only just watched the MOTD highlights, couldn't bring myself to watch it earlier.

Thought it was quite scathing. Commentator saying "When will they learn?" when yet another attack exposed our flanks with our fullbacks caught forward.

The summary afterwards inferred that we hadn't prepared for the way Palace play and hadn't adapted during the game.
