Indeed, and the government has said again today that it won’t rejoin the customs union.
But have they explained why they won't consider re-joining? Surely there must be some logic to the refusal. No good Starmer screaming "SHAN'T" without giving good reasons for it.

Of course not, just the usual word-salad:

No. Our previously stated position on that [still applies]; we are not going backwards when it comes to Brexit, we’re looking forward. There’s no change to any of those red lines.

But we do think we can have a better trading relationship with EU.

Much as we may want to, I don't think he could be seen politically to rejoin a bloc which has double the tariffs that the UK has when selling to the States.

So why didn't he do (whatever it is) during his first term as President. It's one of the great orange retards greatest flaws. His complete inability to think things through. It's a shame that Trump's supporters on here have either been banned or run off into hiding. I would love to see them untangle this latest bout of idiocy.

Ostensibly because the people around him talked him out of it. The real reason, of course, was that only Trump could know the perfect timing thanks to his genius.

Believe me, I get that he wouldn’t say so now even if it were the plan, for multiple reasons.

According to the Guardian live blog, two of the three biggest fallers today are Tesla (first) and Palantir (third).

Musk and Thiel getting what they deserve is a crumb of comfort in this disaster.
If it was such an obvious polcy that should've been done decades ago, you have to wonder why none of the other 14 different presidents have imposed such tariffs since the last time it was done and they crashed the US economy in the 1930s.
Perhaps they just weren’t thinking 4 dimensionally?

Very frustrating.

They have the most glorious opportunity to u-turn because essentially, they must all know it’s for the best.

They should be looking to ask the people again because circumstances have changed in such a dramatic way. It’s such a different world to 2016. Brexit has been proved time and time again to be a false dawn.

We need to be allied to the mature democracies on our doorstep and organising against the military imperial threat of Russia and the imperial economic threat of USA and China. We must stand with our European brothers against the new threats that Trump and Putin have inflicted on the planet.

I think a positive rejoin vote could hit 75%+. The announcement alone would do wonders for FTSE and our growth forecasts.

What in the everloving f*** is a 'panican' ?
One of my initial thoughts was a 'panicking republican'. That would mean him shitting on supporters of his own party so it's unlikely – but I certainly wouldn't rule it out.

The guy is seriously out of his depth, but I am convinced he couldn't care less.

US markets going mad because there was a rumour of a 90-day pause on tarrifs, which gave them a boost, but then people couldn't back that up with any concrete evidence (it seemed to be based on comments of one of his lackeys on Fox or somewhere), so they plunged back down again.

What a time to be alive!

We wouldn’t be able to negotiate any sort of decent deal now would we?
Surely that horse bolted in 2016
